Review of Wooden Door dry white and dry red wines:
If you're looking for a wine that embodies everything wrong with the Pennsylvania wine scene, look no further than Wooden Door. From the moment you take a whiff, you're greeted with an overwhelming aroma of acetone and raw alcohol, leaving a distinctly medicinal impression. The mouthfeel is disappointingly thin, and while you might detect a hint of sweetness buried beneath the harshness, itâs simply not worth the effort to unearth it.
The flavor profile is a chaotic mess, featuring notes reminiscent of salty pepper grass and a petrol-like undertone that only adds to the confusion. Itâs the kind of sipper that leaves you questioning your life choices, with a finish so harsh and fleeting that youâre left wondering if it was ever really there at all. The additives and diffusion methods used in its production are glaringly obvious, and it feels like a disservice to the local wine communityâdefinitely the culprit behind many âI canât drink local wineâ anecdotes.
In my experience, this wine gave me a bout of PTSDâevery sip felt like a bad decision in the making. I even contemplated pouring it out immediately after taking a taste, but I held on just long enough to spit it back into the glass. Itâs a shame, because I had high hopes, but with over 197 wines rated in my collection, this one sits firmly at the bottom of the barrel. Save yourself the regret and steer clear of Wooden Door Wine; your taste budsâand your friends and headâwill thank you, both initially and the next morning. Not recommended at any price.
Wooden Door is to wine what Jose Cuervo Gold or Southern Comfort are to spirits.
Maybe enjoy the winery, the bands, the foods but steer clear of this...
Read moreAs soon as we pulled up to the Wooden Door Winery, we were awestruck. We're lovers of old architecture, be it churches, buildings or old barns. The facade is absolutely beautiful and well maintained, but, the real treat behind indoors. From the beautifully restored floors, to the wine bottle trees and chandelier, to incorporating many of the former churches artifacts, this place is stunning. Jeff, the owner, was absolutely great to talk to and , as he should be, very proud of his wives and his establishment. You can see all the care that goes into everything there. Our meals were delicious and inexpensive. The salad was so fresh and crisp and the service amazing. Tucked away in Vandergrift, PA, this is a gem you'll want to visit over and over again. We regret not going sooner! If we could give everything about it more stars, we would! đ Gary...

The wines were great and appreciated that beer and water was available in addition to the nice selection of wines. I loved the peach and my sister enjoyed the strawberry. The cater, Realms of Catering had a nice selection of food choices at reasonable prices. My husband had an Italian egg roll, which was not your standard egg roll, it was large and absolutely fabulous. I had the Alfredo lasagna which was to die for and i cant wait to go back and have it again! The desserts were a favorite with everyone too. Overall our experience was great and i would highly recommend a visit. Great wine, Delicious food,...
