A few years ago when i visited this park it was beautiful and maintained! It looked exactly the way i imagined the civil war battlefields and historic farms would have been - i could just feel the history all around me! Recently, i read the descriptions of nearby parks on the PWC site and decided to visit the Bristoe Heritage Park again. I was excited that their mission was to keep the land beautiful and really encourage visitors to feel the history that had taken place there over the years - just like i had felt before. When i arrived i devastated to find that there were weeds, grass, and brambles higher than my waist in almost all the meadows. The fields aren't maintained, they're turning into a briar patch overrun by groundhog. If there's wildlife to be seen, you'd never know it. It's scary to think that anyone or anything could be hiding in those weeds - i know there have been coyote sightings somewhere around that area. There are also the train tracks on one side of the park. As a female, i wouldn't go there alone not being able to see all around me. I'm not sure what's going on with the park service, but i sure hope they get this park back to its former beauty. There's too many battlefields and parks in the area to waste your time in one full of ugly weeds that make you...
Read moreIts a very beautiful place. Secluded... We like to do videos and photos productions in this nice park. 2024-2025. I never saw a Confederate Cemetery before, only when we visited a Camp in the CHESAPEAKE BAY on the South of Lexington where confederates were. I never saw an established Confederate cemetery, like in-here before, North Won, South lost.
I wonder if Mark Twain ever travelled this way, during his literary escapades... Old Oak trees, and grass and birds... the Nature is lovely and nice, many people from Washington DC and Baltimore travel here and stay in the near by hotels. The area expanded in the last 20 years. Very quiet. We hear the flying airplanes at the local near by Manassas Regional Airport: Chantilly Air, Dulles Air, LEIDOS.. wow. here is the LEIDOS! We fly at the Manassas Regional Airport and then drive here. Or take a VRE train from UNION Station. On Saturdays and Sunday sometimes, I hear DOGS barking in the South West corner of the area, down there beyond the Buddhist Temple, the training camp for fox hunt. Rolling hills, United...
Read moreI used to go her all the time for walks with family, it was really nice. But the last few times I have gone I must agree with the others, it is getting terribly overgrown. Its pretty much to the point that I am afraid to go for a walk there, not only because it does not feel safe especially not knowing what might be lurking around the corners, but also because of the increased risk of creatures being hidden, along with a higher chance of getting ticks and therefore diseases. Really is a shame that such a fun place, where you would see families out having a nice day outside together, is now such a threat! I remember walking along watching the birds, seeing horses at that farm, even watching the odd game of volleyball at that house next to the farm, and it was nice to have something to look at as I walked. Now all I can see is tall grass and the peace and comfort I found there has severely dropped. If anyone knows what has changed or who can be contacted to reclaim the park, it would be greatly...
