Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center — Attraction in Virginia

So me and my boyfriend had been going threw it on this day in the early morning. We could not agree, talk, or even look at each other without feeling a way. He decided that we needed to do something that made him at ease. He took me here. They gave us a tour of the building then let us (me, since it was my first time in) explore on our own. They have a conference room they can be rented, nice size for a small meeting. Then there is like a banquet room with a kitchen close by. This room also has drop down screens if you want to show a special something while everyone is eating. There is also a theatre room or auditorium in case you want to do a showcase. All the rooms can be rented out. They also have like a museum of art done be children. Middle schoolers and high schoolers have done some amazing work. This room was my favorite. I didn't get to see the whole building we had another stop to make but this did calm the fire that was raging a bit. I have heard that the dance class held there is very well for those who have children that dance and they also hold different type of events...

The Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center is a wonderful venue in historic Downtown Newport New. Inside is the lovely Ella Fitzgerald Theater. The building once housed the Walter Reed School. The historic building has been restored and reopened to the public in 2008 as is today. There are spaces to rent and use for celebrations. We were there for a bridal shower today. It is clean and cozy inside. There are plenty of areas to rest your feet, if needed. The stairwell is large and inviting. I would recommend this if you are in need of a space to borrow. Located in downtown Newport News. Don’t be swayed by the location, this was a very well maintained facility.

Enjoyed a performance in the Ella Fitzgerald theater. The lighting was nice, as well as the seating and most importantly, the acoustics.

I had no idea this place was in Newport News. They offer open mic night the second Tuesday of each month AND other free events. This place is all about celebrating the arts and giving back to the community.
