I launched my kayak here with some friends. There was plenty of parking and it’s a short walk to the launch site. Launch itself isn’t great but I managed.
When the water level was low, I hit some shallow spots but didn’t get stuck. Kayak to the right - swampy but really cool and shaded. Kayak to the left - takes you to residential areas and then goes towards the James river but no shade.

IMO: Good for beginners who don't have much experience in moving water, but who are comfortable with the idea of paddling in a small current. Also good for anyone who wants a mellow paddle through a little patch of nature. The trees in the area provide plenty of shade in the summer. I recommend it. Concrete steps leading down to the water are well suited to paddleboards and swimmers but not so much for kayaks. There is a clearing to the left of the steps where you can put in.
