Richmond Raceway (RR) is a 0.75 miles (1.21 km), D-shaped, asphalt race track located just outside Richmond, Virginia in Henrico County. It hosts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. Known as "America's premier short track", it formerly hosted a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, an IndyCar Series race, and two USAC sprint car races. Because of Richmond Raceway's unique "D" track shape, Richmond is no longer considered to be a true "Short Track" like the mecca of short tracks, Martinsville Speedway. Many NASCAR Drivers do not associate Richmond Raceway as a "Short Track" as they are more in line with mile tracks because of the multiple racing grooves and banking. Richmond Raceway is one of only a few tracks to host all of its events at night. The track sold out 33 consecutive NASCAR Cup Series races. The sellout streak ended in September 2008 partially due to the economic downturn, though the major factor in ticket sales was the impact of Tropical Storm Hanna. Richmond has hosted the final "regular-season" race, leading up to the start of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, each year since the concept was introduced in 2004. However, it was announced late in 2017 that Richmond would be moved into the playoffs for the 2018 season. In 2010, the Raceway introduced a state-of-the-art video scoring tower that boasts more LED square footage than any other in the motorsports industry. The cap features four high definition LED screens that measure 38-feet wide by 24-feet high. The screens broadcast live race action and pre-produced video and graphics. The stem shows running order and has the ability to rotate through the entire field. On January 28, 2019, it was revealed on ISC's 2018 annual report that the raceway's track seating was reduced from 59,000 to 51,000.

We had a great day at the raceway! I shot hours of video that will be on my YouTube channel of the same name. What to expect first time going to a Nascar race as we did on Sunday April 2 2023. We had the full experience with access. I heard it was loud and even came prepared with ear plugs but next time I will have noise cancelling headphones or something more powerful. See my video for more helpful tips. The facility is very nice, seats were great, bathrooms great, food good but outrageous expensive as to be expected. $8 for a tea or lemonade, $5 for can soda. More info in video. Security wasn't overbearing but I did get refused entry the first try for having my GoPro selfie stick. It is clearly shown however that these are not allowed. I did bring my DJI Osmo 5 gimbal with extending mount into the facility but was careful to not extend it and block any views. I got some fantastic footage right by the track as the cars went by. It's quite an extreme experience with the noise, wind and heat they produce as they go by. I highly recommend the experience at least once even if your not a big Nascar fan. I'm familiar with it and used to watch it more back in the Earnhardt Jr, Jeff Gordon days. Any live event like this with so many people is going to make for a rough time getting out. We sat about an hour without moving while trying to exit the facility. Again this is to be expected and only so much can be done to alleviate this issue. Now having seen a race end I would like 5-10 minutes prior to the end of as soon as the winner is determined.

I had a great time attending the NASCAR race here in the spring of 2024. The lack of elevators makes it difficult for those with mobility issues and they won’t let you ride the escalator up unless you have tickets for the higher & most expensive sections. It was pretty easy to get in and out of the track and parking is good. Definitely bring a seat cushion or your butt will be on fire on a hot day sitting on those metal benches/bleachers that are even hot to the touch. Personally, I feel this track could be updated a bit as it is showing its age. Some of the food vendors/concession stands were open and some were closed, which was odd. I did like that there were some picnic tables around the concession stands to eat. Staff are nice and helpful if you have any questions. Hotels nearby are lacking and the closest hotels to the track cost a fortune during a race weekend. It is a pretty neat track but I doubt I’ll be attending another race there anytime soon. I prefer attending races at Darlington over Richmond. I had a great time, but can’t give the facilities a perfect score, sorry. It needs some maintenance/updating to make this track easier to access once inside. Not my favorite track, but definitely not the worst.

I visite richmond raceway to watch a NASCAR race, and it was an incredible evening ! The excitement in the air was contagious, and the atmosphere was full of energy. The view of the track was excellent, and I could see all the action up close. The sound of the engines roaring as the cars zoomed by was thrilling. The speed and skill of the drivers kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The facilities at the raceway were great too. There were plenty of food and drink options, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The crowd was fantastic, full of passionate NASCAR fans, which made the experience even more fun. Cheering together and feeling the excitement of the race was something I’ll never forget. If you’re a NASCAR fan or just love watching fast cars, I highly recommend catching a race here .It’s a thrilling experience that you won’t want to miss!

This is my second time coming to this race track in my life. I came here when I was a little kid. It's a smaller track, but it feels large. It's a decent size, and you can see around the whole track without binoculars. I have to be honest, though; it was really confusing finding my way around. And the staff is just temporary, so you're kind of on your own trying to find where you're supposed to park and where you're supposed to sit. But I think on my next visit, I will definitely know my way around better. The bleacher seats are not great, but they definitely feel like classic NASCAR. I'm definitely coming back to the track again; it was an enjoyable experience! It's only about 15 minutes away from downtown Richmond. The area isn't the best, but it's a good raceway to enjoy the sport!

Went for a NASCAR cup series - had a great experience, nothing to complain. If you have a general admission ticket with no parking pass - you’ll figure it out where to part as you arrive, as there is plenty of police directing the traffic and the workers who will explain you which gate to go to, etc. Bunch of restrooms, which are clean. Plenty of food/drink spots. We had a fanground pass, which was well worth it. The race is 4 hours, so as it goes - you can go hangout grab food, buy some merch and explore the fanground area. Overall - great job, very well organized event!
