We had a great time! It was our first race and I am so impressed by the whole operation. The line to get into the parking lot was about as long as I expected, but once we got in there it was efficiently executed and the walk from parking to the entrance was not bad at all (we got there at 6:00 for the 7:30 race). They had merch just outside of the entrance, and they had a ton of space planned out for it, so even though there were a ton of people there, it didn’t feel like it. The entrance process was quick (probably less than a 60 second wait in line) and then the bag check was just as chill. You really can bring in anything so long as it’s not a gin or a glass bottle (I brought in some twisted teas and some snacks, but I saw some people bringing in whole coolers and dinners). When we got to our seats each seat’s designated area on the bench was easily big enough for two people. It was the most space I’ve ever had to myself and the most comfortable I’ve ever been at any event. Our seats had a cafeteria style table attached to the row in front of us (Section Commonwealth G row 43 seats 25&26) and it was the perfect height to rest feet on and deep enough to also have food and drinks on. It also had bag hooks under it. It was so great! The seats for like the ten rows in front of us and all do the sections around us also had these tables too. We were just high enough up to see all of the track and we could see everyone’s pit boxes as well as the start/finish line. They offer noise canceling headphones/radio combos for like $40 if you rent them a few weeks ahead of time or $60 if you do it the day of and they are what made the whole experience worth it. They are absolutely necessary! However loud you think it is at a race, it’s 38 times louder. Also, even if you know all of the racers, when so much is going on all at once, you need the commentary of the announcers to help you out and keep you from getting overwhelmed. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean, lines short, and there were like 30 stalls in each one. The only thing I would change is more food options (it was all bbq food, which is kind of what I expected but I would have really appreciated food a little lighter on the stomach) and a more efficient food line. Overall, an incredible experience, kind people, and we are already planning our next...
Read moreRichmond Raceway (RR) is a 0.75 miles (1.21 km), D-shaped, asphalt race track located just outside Richmond, Virginia in Henrico County. It hosts the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series. Known as "America's premier short track", it formerly hosted a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, an IndyCar Series race, and two USAC sprint car races. Because of Richmond Raceway's unique "D" track shape, Richmond is no longer considered to be a true "Short Track" like the mecca of short tracks, Martinsville Speedway. Many NASCAR Drivers do not associate Richmond Raceway as a "Short Track" as they are more in line with mile tracks because of the multiple racing grooves and banking.
Richmond Raceway is one of only a few tracks to host all of its events at night. The track sold out 33 consecutive NASCAR Cup Series races. The sellout streak ended in September 2008 partially due to the economic downturn, though the major factor in ticket sales was the impact of Tropical Storm Hanna.
Richmond has hosted the final "regular-season" race, leading up to the start of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, each year since the concept was introduced in 2004. However, it was announced late in 2017 that Richmond would be moved into the playoffs for the 2018 season.
In 2010, the Raceway introduced a state-of-the-art video scoring tower that boasts more LED square footage than any other in the motorsports industry. The cap features four high definition LED screens that measure 38-feet wide by 24-feet high. The screens broadcast live race action and pre-produced video and graphics. The stem shows running order and has the ability to rotate through the entire field. On January 28, 2019, it was revealed on ISC's 2018 annual report that the raceway's track seating was reduced from...
Read moreBeautiful facility. They lacked a bit of concessions this year, mainly in the fan grounds, had to buy a warm hard tea. Other than that, amazing experience, friendly people working, easy and clear access points. Tons of things to do even if you don't get infield access. Be prepared for a lot of walking, but that's common for any NASCAR race. If there was a second tunnel leading to the infield over in the turn 4 area, it would have made out experience much easier and would have been able to do more. Maybe next time we won't do any grilling before the race, but even getting in the gate at noon to check out the garages, didn't leave much time to go back out to grab your cooler, get back in and claim your seat, then get back to the infield for driver intros and the start of the race. Didn't have much time to check out the stuff in the midway or merch trailers. This is probably mostly from slightly poor planning on my part, having seats in chaos corner, and my better half having legs that are half the size of mine. LOL!
This was our 3rd time here and it has never disappointed. The traffic on 95 north coming back to the Baltimore area sucked and I blame that on people who don't know how to simply cruise down the road. Traffic leaving the immediate track facility is always going to be a little annoying just because so many people are trying to leave at one time. Having fan grounds access really helped us hangout out after the race longer to let traffic leave before we did. With any NASCAR race, it should be planned as a whole day event, even a weekend event. DO NOT EVER SHORTEN THE RACES!!!
Thank you all track staff that made our experience as smooth and happy as possible! We will for sure be...
