I would love to comment in detail but unfortunately I drove up from Richmond and at 10:56am on a Saturday in mid-October, the sign said "closed" until "10:00". Not the first time this has happened to me, this also happened several years back stopping through on a whim en route from the valley back to Richmond. I get that it's volunteer-operated, but the inconsistent hours is a great way to kill a museum.

Neat museum with free admission but donations are encouraged. If you are interested in the history of the Stonewall Brigade, this museum is an excellent source of information. It should take around an hour to experience all the exhibits. They have a cool gift shop with very good prices. The museum has several new exhibits on the horizon!

Very nice museum - excellent video about the history of the area during the French and Indian War Era which is pre-Revolutionary. Museum briefly covers the history of the Blue Ridge through the Civil War and then covers each war since then with the focus on the 116th Infantry Regiment known as the Stonewall Brigade. The 116th Infantry is the oldest continuous service regiment in the Virginia National Guard and seventh oldest in the U. S. Army. Museum is mostly military in displays and is small, but its exhibits are professional-looking and well-labelled. There is a small gift shop with patriotic and military pins, books, and some clothing and toys. It takes only about an hour to see and experience. Free admission with donations greatly appreciated. If you enjoy visiting museums, as we do, then this is a good one even though it is not a large one. We have disabilities which limit our walking and standing - The museum gift shop has a few chairs for those who need to sit for a moment which some museums forget to have for those who...

Very impressed. Such an interesting piece of history. Also, the "Free Admission" makes it an easy choice when planning to visit multiple places.

There is a lot of information available, if you have the time to read through. However, if you do not, it is still worth visiting to see the exhibit that covers a period from the seventeen hundreds to present.

Also, if you are figuring out your site seeing plan while visiting the Shenandoah Valley, the 29th Division Museum (small, indoors) is only a 15 minute drive from the Frontier Culture Museum (large, outdoors), and you can easily do both on...
