My family & I always go to different parks & swimming areas & we were in Waco & had seen this one & in the pictures (reviews) it looked pretty nice. So we get there and go in the side where the people camp & the lady at the office was super nice & told us that there was no place to swim over there & to go next door to the actual swimming area. We get there and the yellow poles for the swimming area were on the land⦠it was super dry because of the terrible heat & no rain so that was expected so we were like ok⦠So we walked probably 50 feet out to the water. It was sooo hot & it was soo trashy and you could be in the water & walk out a good ways and still it would just be to your knees, no spot to actually even swim because the lake was so dry. So we got in and waded for a about maybe an hr.. Iām sure when itās not a drought itās a nice spot but when we were getting ready to leave the I guess āpark managerā or whoever lives in the camper by the entrance came down & said that we had to pay to swim & that he was writing our license plate numbers down & that we better pay before we left!!! I never mind paying but what am I actually paying for we couldnāt even swim in the water.. it was to our knees & the swimming area part was so far away from the actual water. It literally looked like a scene from a deserted desert with a puddle of water lol & nobody I mean nobody was in that side of the park at all. So he made his way all the way out there to tell me rudely to pay to swim.. SIR?!?! To swim in what exactly? A puddle? The bathrooms were disgusting, hair everywhere and clogged up the drains, it was literally disgusting.. He was worried about the wrong thing.. again I never mind paying at all.. we love the lakes and we understood the drought and no water but he was rude, the land was trashy af & the bathrooms were terrible. I donāt know if when people come in and pay thatās what pays for him to be able to stay at the park and live there in his camper & since there obviously hasnāt been anyone out there in a while.. Iām sure he was like I better try to get everything I can out of them cause I mean it was deserted and Iām sure because the heat nobody has been out there.. by the looks of the place if he is the park manager or whatever he was he needs to get out there clean that place up.. My point is donāt go out there even to just look around cause he will find you and make you pay for literally a deserted island š Iām sure itās really nice when there is water out there but why am I going to pay to swim in a swimming area that doesnāt even exist š¤·š¼āāļø You have to walk a mile out past the yellow poles to even begin to reach water. Other than that & almost getting stung by a scorpion in that bathroom because of all the trash and hair caked up on the drain.. Iām assuming where the scorpion had been hiding until my daughter was rinsing the water off and I guess disturbed itā¦we did have a good time wading in the water that was there even though it was hot š„µ I just couldnāt believe the man came all the way out to make us pay for the swimming area that wasnāt even there. Again I never care about paying that wasnāt the issue the issue was how rude he was to my husband and I whenever there were no signs going in the park & the gate was wide open.. I just wouldnāt expect them to want us to pay for the swimming area when there isnāt one. Usually on Sunday & the gates are open they never charge to be at a park.. I learned my lesson to never go back to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were very disappointed with the lack of maintenance to the bathrooms, showers, and some of the campsites. We have camped at airport park several times over the last 20 years. It seems like nothing ever changes. Things come apart and break and even after all that time nothing has been taken care of. Only people we have ever seen there are the people who mow the grass and spray out the bathrooms! Campsites are missing the tops, shower handles are broken. There were only 2 working showers in our area.(#50-80). It is a shame that you let such a beautiful place turn so ugly! I am originally from Lake Whitney, and have camped there several times also. The difference is that every time there is something that is broken there, it gets fixed pretty much within just a few days. So I wonder why that doesn't happen with like Waco and Airport Park? After all both lakes are corp of engineers parks! It seems to me that if Lake Waco was cleaned up and repaired, the corp of engineers would make much more money than they are making now. There are so many areas that could be improved, clean and maintained. It's just a shame to waste such a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI grew up in the 80's hanging out with friends and family at airport park. I moved away for ten years and went out to the park last year and it has been rearranged significantly. It appeared to be well kept. We didn't get out of the car but what we saw was nice. I like the screened in cabins! The lady at the entrance was very nice and helpful. She did not charge us because we were just taking a drive to the beach and back. I took a star away because I remember when they put the big rocks along the road and we couldn't park our cars along side our friends off the road anymore. Or have access by car to drive down by the water in certain areas. I was young back then and I guess I understand (as an adult) that it was for safety purposes and order. It messed up our party. Airport park holds many childhood memories and great times during my teenage years. My mom took me there as a child. I took my boys when they were young and had some wild times there in between. Today, as an airbnb host, I recommend the park to my guest. I'm happy to have the lake so...
