I was so disappointed today. I brought my two grand babies that are 8 and 10. The zoo was filthy to me. The glass for the reptiles, fish, otters, etc……were so dirty you could hardly see what’s on the other side. I understand this was the first pretty day that we have had in awhile but it was just unacceptable. Every time I would go to a different exhibit I would hope it would be better but another disappointment. I don’t understand the vulture issue. Are they there on purpose or is it an issue that they can’t do anything about? I’ve been raised in the country my whole life with animals and I know they stink but this place today was awful. You couldn’t put ur trash in the cans because of all the bees. The zoo needs to have employees keep the trash changed out more to possibly help with that.
I seen where the Gibbons were getting a remodel. Glad to see that. But in that whole zoo we only seen an Orangutan. It was moving soooooooo slow that I was concerned about it. Maybe it was super old. Idk, it was just sad. Animals just seemed unhealthy to me. And sad.
The landscaping of the zoo was trashy as well. Nothing kept up! You couldn’t tell where the wild growth versus managed landscaping was suppose to be. I just feel if something isn’t done soon I don’t know how it will remain open. We won’t be back which is sad because I would rather support my hometown zoo.
However for the price the size of the zoo is perfect. Just needs more animals and cleaner conditions. Do better Waco!
And buying tickets online didn’t help the over 45 minute wait because the employee came out and told us that the lines were for all purchases. They stood in line just as long as we did so what’s the purpose...
Read moreCameron Park Zoo is truly one of Waco’s hidden gems and a place that holds a special place in our hearts. We’ve been members since the zoo opened in 1993, and over the years it has become a treasured part of our family’s story. Our children grew up visiting regularly, and now we have the joy of bringing our grandchildren to experience the same magic.
The zoo itself is beautifully designed—nestled in the natural landscape of Cameron Park, it feels more like a peaceful nature walk than a typical zoo. It’s clean, well-maintained, and incredibly relaxing to explore. The exhibits are thoughtfully laid out, giving the animals ample space and creating an immersive experience for visitors. The winding pathways, waterfalls, and lush greenery make it easy to forget you’re in the middle of the city.
There’s a wonderful balance between education and fun here. Kids can enjoy seeing animals up close and playing in interactive areas, while adults can appreciate the well-kept habitats and conservation efforts. Whether it’s watching the lions sunbathe, feeding the giraffes, or walking through the reptile house, there’s always something new and exciting to discover.
One of our favorite times of the year is Wild Lights at Christmas. It’s a truly magical event that transforms the zoo into a glowing wonderland. The lights, music, and festive atmosphere make it a must-see during the holidays and something our entire family looks forward to year after year.
Cameron Park Zoo continues to grow and improve, and it’s been a joy to support them as members over the decades. It’s more than just a zoo—it’s a place where memories are made. Highly recommended for locals and...
Read moreI have no idea where the good reviews are coming from for Cameron park zoo. We had a horrible experience at this zoo. When we arrived we were informed that the bears, giraffes, owls, monkeys, several big cats, and inside aquarium with fish and reptiles were closed exhibits that day due to the recent storms. There was no discount for not being able to see these animals either. The few animals we did see looked so incredibly angry and depressed. Their cages looked unkept and filthy. You can’t even find or see the animals in these awfully kept exhibits. The poor bison looked absolutely awful. The lions looked so angry and unhappy. The entire zoo was swarming with bees due to the overflowing trash in seemingly every trash can. There were bees everywhere! There is absolutely no sense of direction at this zoo either. The brush is so overgrown that animal exhibits you’re supposed to be able to travel to next are missed because it seems there’s no way to get to them. It’s a dirty, smelly maze with bees swarming around every corner and empty exhibits or locked doors with people just walking around aimlessly looking at each other trying to figure out where to go next. The vending machines only had a small selection of the same sodas or Deja Blue over and over again. There was also only ONE working water fountain in the entire park. Not a good experience. The Fort Worth zoo is your best bet if you’re looking for a fun zoo experience. If you’re looking for a bee exhibit or you’re a beekeeper looking to stock up on free bees then I recommend this zoo. What...
