I have been living in Central Texas for 6 years and it's amazing to see how the Cameron/Pecan Parks have transformed. The parks are well maintained and policed by the locals/law enforcement. Pecan Bottoms Park is at the base of Cameron Zoo and for you fitness freaks give Jacob's Ladder a visit, I promise that your quads will thank you! Pecan Bottoms is located directly on the Brazos river and next to miles of well developed hiking and biking trails. You can literally walk/bike/run/boat the trails from Baylor University through downtown Waco to McLennan County Community College. There's not a shortage of friendly personalities. On any given weekend you can see retirees, medieval cosplayers, frisbee golfers, collegiate track teams, rowing teams, and picnics galore. Read morePecan Bottom Park is one of our favorite parks in the Waco area. There are several other parks all throughout Cameron Park that we also enjoy, but this one is by far the favorite. It's typically not too difficult to find parking nearby, it's right next to the Riverwalk and the Cameron Park Zoo just across the street.
This park is right in the center of everything in Waco, so no matter where you want to go or what you want to do before or after stopping at this park, it's just a quick walk or drive to wherever your next destination is.

Then there are the swings, slides, etc. Plenty to do with the...
