Good walking trails, a little creepy. Are people supposed to be using ATVs on the same trails where people are walking? Seems a little bit dangerous. I was here to find the Metfern Cemetery. It's the final resting place for the dead from the Metropolitan State Hospital and the Fernald School.

Multiple access points to this trail network from Lexington, Waltham, and Belmont. Did an easy 2.5 mile hike including the water tower trail. If the trails were marked better this would be a 5-star review. Kid- and pet-friendly. We parked at Met State and the dog park.

Has a very nice lighted softball field. Plenty of parking. Has a playground, Rock Meadow playground, and has walking track around the field. Has a Port a potty for bathroom. There are some nature trails off of the field. Food and Dunkin's close by.

This place sucks. Like seriously sucks. Tons of off leash yap yap breed dogs with no socialization skills. But that pales in comparison to the state of the underbrush on the wooded areas. It’s pretty clear that the state doesn’t give a rats behind about it. There’s an insane amount of invasive and nuisance plant species in here. Full out groves of Japanese knotweed, garlic mustard, common buckthorn, more trees being choked out by Virginia creeper than I could count. The absolute worst part about hiking here is it has more poison ivy than I’ve ever seen in a single location in my life. And I’ve hiked a ton of different trails across multiple states. Have your Tecnu Extreme at the ready when you get home. It makes me mad that this is a DCR property and they don’t even take care of it. Where are our tax dollars going if they can’t even maintain...

Beaver brook is a great place for walking or biking. The western Greenway goes through this, a trail loop in waltham. There are plenty of opportunities to see small wildlife and lots of trails to explore. A can't miss spot is the bridge over beaver brook which leads to the rock meadow. For bikers there are plenty of single track trails to check out or venture to lone tree hill from this trail network to find some more technical...

They've done a lot to keep the woodland protected and the trails clear. Yet, this whole place used to belong to the Metropolitan State Hospital. There used to be a few or more buildings along the roads/trails. There should be plaques acknowledging the history of the area. Why there isn't, I'm not sure, but it would be a...
