Abbey Theater — Attraction in Washington Township

Under the direction of Joe Bishara and his team The Abbey Theater has become one of the preeminent producers of live theater in Central Ohio these last several years. The venue itself is cozy, comfortable and well-maintained with excellent acoustics and very reasonable ticket prices. More importantly, the shows we have seen there have been uniformly good to great.

The last show we saw, "You're My Boy," a drama about the Eisenhower/Nixon relationship by Herb Brown, was superb! A stellar ensemble cast of Douglas Wilson, Samantha Woodill, Phil Cunningham, Todd Covert, Jacob Erney and Brad Barbin brought these historical figures to life in all their glory and shame, making for a most entertaining 2 hours - especially for a history buff like me. So, in summary, if you like live theater make sure you keep abreast of what's playing at Abbey Theater.

Modest (capacity ~300 spectators) theater great for presentations and small-scale performances. Good sound. Seats are classic "movie theater" design with upholstered and cushioned spring-hinged seats with individual upholstered [and slightly less cushioned] backrests and shared wooden armrests. First row of seats on same level as stage (i.e. no raised or lowered stage nor dividing rail or curb). Combined with how one must walk partially in front of that first row to climb the stairs to upper rows, all eyes could be on you if you arrive late or need to leave during the event. A tad drafty (but hey that could have been because I attended a presentation on a windy nineteen degree...

This theater is modern, clean and comfortable it's inside the Dublin rec center and I very much enjoyed my experience. The only thing I feel was missing is a concession of some sort. They have an intermission but no concessions so bring your own drink if you like. Getting in is easy and plenty of parking.
