Was misgendered by the first clerk (no acknowledgement or apology). Could not make out what she was asking me and asked her to repeat and she did so a little saltily. Started filling out my paperwork and a minute later my number was called, even though there were four people in line ahead of me. Was then scolded for not coming to the desk immediately when my number was called, even though I wasn't ready. Present my utility bills and am told that they are too old (no one had mentioned that they needed to be from the last 60 days; it is on the website but not easily found). Can't accomplish what I came there to do, which is frustrating because I made this appointment in SEPTEMBER and this (MARCH 24) was the earliest appointment they had. When I went back to the area near the back of the line to attempt to finish that one piece of paperwork I wasn't given time to complete, while I have this nice clipboard they gave me, I am invited to get the hell out because apparently this is considered loitering. The DMV is famous for being a soul-crushing, tedious, unpleasant place to be, but I've been lucky for most of my life to not have too bad experiences. Until yesterday. Benning Road DMV was an upsetting, frustrating, confusing experience, top to bottom. It's right in my neighborhood, but I would drive across town, through D.C.'s WORST traffic circles, to avoid ever entering those...
Read moreI usually do everything DMV related from home. However, the system was not allowing me to complete the task in which I was attempting to complete. As I entered, I was greeted and assisted by Mr. Shane Johnson, who listened to my needs then passed me a number for service. When my number was called, I went to the service desk in which I was assigned and the lady behind the desk shared with me the issue and why I would not be able to complete my task online. I understood exactly where she was coming from and went to my car and started asking google all of the questions I had before asking anyone inside because for some reason, the people in the DMV(in the past, which is why I do everything online) makes me feel like the questions I have are burdens to them. Ultimately, I ended up going back in to get clarification and Mr. Shane Johnson was knowledgeable, FAST, motivated, attentive, just every positive customer service word you can use to describe him is fitting. He was able to assist me and I am super grateful! He has no idea but his kindness and helpfulness actually made me want to cry because I don't see it often. I even wanted to show my appreciation by buying him lunch and he denied due to code of ethics, which is understandable. If he sees this, Thank you again so much for your help!! and teaching me what needs to be done to resolve my issues...
Read moreHad an appt on 12/8/2020. Went to change over license and car. Had everything for the license but forgot to print the DC insurance for my car and was told I couldn’t change the car over from MD to DC. This station doesn’t accommodate their citizens so if you forget something you’ll have to try to get another appointment which could take weeks or months during Covid.
Another thing that bothered me was they had citizens standing outside in 30 degree weather (even elderly people) with the wind blowing. They didn’t allow anyone inside until the last minute before your appointment which was unacceptable to me. DC has to do better! It’s funny how I was allowed to use a kiosk to pay my $200 dollars worth of tickets but not able to use it to print out proof of insurance which is completely backwards to me. All in all DC is just about taking money from its citizens and don’t offer any accommodations for its citizens when changing driving credentials. Typical state after money that’s all. I gave 3 stars because the license transaction went smooth and that’s it. The reps I viewed at this site had nasty attitudes and honesty were complaining about how many people was at the site even though it’s by appointment only. Their energy was very low and stand-offish. I only came here because it’s close to my home other than that I would go to Georgetown or...
