I’m This is a really peaceful little playground tucked right near the water, and it’s a great hidden spot if you’re looking to bring kids somewhere a little more calm than your average city park. I came here recently and even though it’s not a huge playground, it has just enough space and equipment to make it a nice stop, especially during cherry blossom season. You’re surrounded by trees and views of the water, so the vibe is much more tranquil than the typical crowded D.C. playgrounds. It’s also not too far from the East Potomac picnic area, which makes it easy to turn a quick visit into a full day with food, blankets, and chill time. The equipment seemed in good shape—swings, small slides, and climbing features that younger kids would love. Plus, since it’s kind of tucked away, it never feels overwhelming or loud. There’s usually plenty of open green space nearby, and it’s not unusual to see people having a picnic, walking dogs, or riding by on bikes. Definitely a good spot to keep in mind if you’re with family or just want a low-key location to unwind with a view. Bonus: it’s very close to the Tidal Basin if you’re doing a scenic walk and want to make a little detour that’s actually peaceful.

I really wanted to give this park 5 stars, but the main part of it is the slides (at least that’s how I see it) and they are metal and they get HOT! It was too hot to handle, so my kids got bored quickly because they couldn’t go on the slides. We came back for a second try, but this time we came with towels for the kids to sit on and they had a really great time and enjoyed the playground a lot. Pros: you can see airplanes, boats, and lots of helicopters and maybe even some military aircraft. The cherry blossoms are beautiful in the spring and Haines Point is just generally really beautiful. No shade here at the playground, but there are huge trees nearby when you need to take a break in the shade, and plenty of picnic tables as well. As long as we have towels for the slides, it’s a good time. Bring towels and sunscreen!
