Well my experience wasn't as enjoyable as others at all. My day started ok however as the day proceeded things seemed to change. First according to the guidelines of the park for renting space we were not allowed to play any amplified music, our neighbors had that. Not a problem we just wish we had ours. The problem came shortly afterwards when my guess needed to use the RESTROOM. The RESTROOMS WERE HORRIBLE SMELLING AND OVERFLOWING WITH URINE EVERYWHERE! HOW DO YOU HAVE A NATIONAL PARK IN THESE CONDITIONS? I DON'T BELIEVE THEIR ARE ANY EXCUSES LIKE I SAID "NATIONAL " PARK. An attempt was made to contact someone from the park but no answer... The next problem was when another party came to meet me WITH THE SAME SCHEDULED TIME AS OURS. How do you double book for the same spot? I'm not sure however the police came and conveniently relocated another party that didn't have a reservation. When asked if he knew of anyone who could help about the restrooms situation the officer stated that their was no one around (the time was aprox 15:30) on Saturday. I regret not taking pictures now however they seem like they haven't been cleaned in days so I'm sure that I can go anytime and upload them later. While driving through the park looking up through the trees and up at the sky, the site is beautiful but when you look down toward the ground it makes you wanna pull your hair out literally because at least 4 of the entrances the roads are hazardous, cracking up in pieces, just simply not the best to drive on with your car. In fact on this day my friends and I called Park & Planning, Parks & Recreation etc, to complain about the terrible conditions to the road and of course we were directed to another source that tried to redirect us until we demanded assistance right then. Its been this way for (YEARS) literally. While I might continue to stroll through the park at some point I will tread very lightly and if anyone behind me doesn't like it... feel free to drive around me (with caution of course) because I refuse to drive over 15-20 {

werd gebouwd als onderdeel van de Eastern Branch Line Defenses (Anacostia River). De bouw begon tussen oktober en december 1861 en werd "voltooid" in het voorjaar van 1862. Het fort werd gebouwd om een kritieke kruising van Ridge Road (Alabama Avenue) te beschermen en werd ondersteund door Forten Meigs en Chaplin in het noorden en Fort Davis naar de zuiden.
Fort DuPont was een regelmatige zeshoekige schans, ontworpen voor 14 kanonnen, waarvan 12 door schietgaten. Fort Dupont had zes zijden, elk 30 voet lang, beschermd door een diepe gracht en bomen die naast elkaar waren gekapt met takken die naar buiten wijzen. Het werd genoemd naar Vlagofficier Samuel F. Dupont, die in november 1861 het bevel voerde over de zeeoverwinning in Port Royal, South Carolina.
Het was nooit een sterk werk en in 1862 merkte een commissie die de verdediging van Washington bestudeerde op dat een diep ravijn ten westen van het fort door een blokhut moest worden bedekt. Op andere momenten werden traverses aanbevolen om de uitvalhaven, magazijn en geweerkuilen naar de dekkingsbenaderingen te dekken.
In april 1864 adviseerde brigadegeneraal John G. Barnard, hoofdingenieur, de stopzetting van Fort Dupont. Het leger verliet het fort officieel in 1865. Het terrein keerde terug naar de oorspronkelijke landeigenaar, Michael Caton.
Hoewel het garnizoen en de kanonnen nooit de strijd hebben gezien, diende Fort Dupont als een reddingslijn van vrijheid. Weggelopen slaven vonden hier veiligheid voordat ze zich bij de groeiende gemeenschap van 'smokkelwaar' in Washington voegden.
