We made the mistake of heading north to get to the beach - be warned that it's a considerable hike. There's a creek between the parking lot and the beach that you have to walk all the way around. The Google Maps marked trail and the satellite view of where the creek is are misleading. The creek has shifted much further north than where it appears on the satellite image, which adds much more to the hike than we were expecting. Instead of going north from the parking lot I'd suggest going south, there's a pedestrian bridge across the creek at the end of Heath Rd that takes you over to the beach, it's like 1/4 the distance compared to going north. The obvious benefit of going north is that no one else does, so we had the entire beach...

So, be prepared for about a 15-20 min walk through sand dunes with plenty of thornes to get to this beach. If you park at the beaches parking lot it's quiet a trek. Trying to bring kids and a bunch of 'day at the beach items' is a real pain. You have to cross a bridge and follow several primitive paths like I said, to get to the beach. Once their it's nice. Lots of old logs pieces and crab shells as us usual up here in the PNW. You'll see lots of dogs up here which we love, but does increase the chances of getting hook worms. It's ok. Not the best not the worst. I'd say if your a large group and are bringing kids.... There are several other beaches in the vicinity that a trillion...

This often-overlooked hidden gem is full of subtle unexpected surprises...there's wildlife everywhere but you have to be still to see it, eagles, otters, coyotes and bobcat's all call this little strip of land nestled between a creek and a river home... The trail to the beach is long, and not a lot of people make the trek, so it's still a nice reward for your walking effort... This is a day use Park so there's no camping, however there are three large parking stalls that can accommodate big rigs, and the parking lot is an easy...

The trail is overgrown in places with prickly trees that feel like a bunch of needles poking you (quoting my 11 year old). The views along the creek out to the ocean are beautiful. The parking lot warns of spurs, and a few of us got stuck by them. Overall, I wouldn't recommend the hike/walk. If anything, I'd go to the halfway point lookout and then turn around. The trail is much more overgrown after that. See pics for the tunnels of brush we had to go through.

Just a beautiful state park, I can only imagine how much more beautiful it is in the spring and summer after the planets have had a chance to grow and bloom. Overall, even in the winter it's a wonderful place to visit. If you want to walk to the Pacific Ocean lower tide walk south to the bridge and cross over the river/creek. A much safer way than trying to wade through the water.
