Such a gem! It's very scenic and rustic, and a quiet place to unwind. Be warned, the heritage island trail is more of a well worn path. That being said, it's awesome! At some points you are right up on the water and feel very secluded. I would recommend hiking boots or sturdy shoes. I dropped it one star only bc when you get to Kingman island it's hard to tell where the trail for that one begins, and the pedestrian entrance is always closed, preventing you from doing a loop from the main entrance, crossing both islands, exiting at the pedestrian entrance, and walking along Benning back to the main entrance. Doesn't matter though. My four legged buddies love to go every time, and I enjoy every moment of sharing it with them! We go often....

Wonderful gem on the Anacostia River! While many people don't know Kingman and Heritage Islands exist, they're one of DC's best kept secrets. An awesome place for nature lovers, bikers, hikers, people of all ages, birders, kayakers, volunteers, school groups and more! Hiking and biking trails provide easy access to the woods and it's not difficult to get to the islands by car (park in Lot 6), on foot/bike (Anacostia Riverwalk Trail), or on public transit (streetcar or bus). Do yourself a favor and drop by the islands- great for getting outside in any season for so many...

What a beautiful little park! It's accessible from the RFK parking lot. I went for a cleanup event but it looked like there are some nice short walking trails.

nice boardwalks and trails, very pretty on the water. 4/5 stars because the trails are somewhat short. takes ~1.5 hours to walk them all. fun though!
