Lake Waramaug is one of the most beautiful lakes of CT. Unfortunately, local government does not like non local people coming to enjoy their lake. From time to time park employees lie about “bacteria” present at the public beach open for non residents. They shut down the beach and kick everybody out. At the same time, the beach for village residents only or for the members of their upscale golf club stay open. We will never camp here again. While the facilities are ok, the staff is extremely disrespectful and racist. They were yelling at us and threatened us to leave. They called the cops on us twice and lied to them to make us look bad.
We were a group of about 20 people and occupied the majority of the space. People around us were being loud/yelling and they never said anything to them - we were the only ones targeted. The lake is around 8 miles around, making it a favorite for runners and bikers. There are several town beaches and a state park that is open during the summer months.
