Lake Waramaug is one of the most beautiful lakes of CT. Unfortunately, local government does not like non local people coming to enjoy their lake. From time to time park employees lie about “bacteria” present at the public beach open for non residents. They shut down the beach and kick everybody out. At the same time, the beach for village residents only or for the members of their upscale golf club stay open. It is very sad that rich residents of the village treat their less well-off guests like that. Shame on the town executives who lie to discourage people from visiting the lake and a state park.

We will never camp here again. While the facilities are ok, the staff is extremely disrespectful and racist. They were yelling at us and threatened us to leave. They called the cops on us twice and lied to them to make us look bad. We were a group of about 20 people and occupied the majority of the space. People around us were being loud/yelling and they never said anything to them - we were the only ones targeted. Their racism was clear when they were yelling at us like we were animals while we were doing our best to stay quiet and be respectful. Never ever coming here again, thank you next.

We have visited this lake during fall and the views from different angles were amazing, when we visited there was no wind so the reflection of fall foliage was breathtaking on lake water, the place is quite nice and clean. This place should be nice during summers too, nice picnic spot with kayaking.

The lake is around 8 miles around, making it a favorite for runners and bikers. There are several town beaches and a state park that is open during the summer months. Most of the homes along the lake belong to weekend and occasional visitors, so the neighborhood doesn't have a sense of community. There were once 7 inns around the lake and currently only Hopkins Inn...
