My absolute favorite place to take my pup. I've been here at least 5 days a week since my dog was 4 months old, and it is almost impossible to beat! Multiple parking areas, large field for fetch/play, 10 or so minute walk to the beach, and a huge beach area for access to the bay, all of which are considered an off leash area.
The vast majority of the time, people are very considerate and mindful of their dogs and out of the 100+ times I've been here, I can't say I've truly had a bad experience with people or dogs. I tend to go at a similar time every day after work, and it's fun seeing and chatting with familiar people while our dogs play. On nice days, I've lost count at 30+ dogs tearing around the big field, and it's a pretty damn good time!
If you have a dog that loves to retrieve in water, it's pretty hard to beat this spot. My boy learned to swim at this beach and nowhere gets him as excited as when I get even within a mile of the parking lot.
Best dog park...
Read moreGreat park to take your dog to let them get some quality off-leash time. There is an open field area where you can throw a ball with your pup. There are also usually other dogs there playing too, so your dog can make some new friends and get some social time. It isn't a fenced in park, but it is most surrounded with trees and natural borders, so if your dog is a "runner" you'll need to be more careful. You can also walk down to the bay to have your dog take a swim or walk along the beach. They also do have a trashcan at the beach (usually with poop bags) and a trashcan up at the parking area to keep things clean. If you like, you can also take the Bay to Baker trail up to Squalicum Creek Park, which is about 1 mile one way. There is a dog park at Squalicum Creek Park. That makes a for a nice 45-60 minute out and back walk with some off-leash time...
Read moreThis is a great little loop park created from an environmentally contaminated property. Its less developed than its bigger brother (Squalicum Park) and doesn't have the playground, fenced dog park, baseball fields, etc.
However, this park is pretty cool for getting your dogs or kids some exercise. The loop is a little over a mile and passes by the ocean as well as a big open field. There's a trash can by the ocean access area for those picking up after dogs.
You can walk through the community college parking lot for a little bigger loop. Just follow the sidewalk across the bridge.
There's a lot of shade trees and a couple overpasses to keep the sun off. The parking lot is small, but there's not as many people that use it (compared to...
