This brutalist structure reminds me of the Communist Buzludzha Monument in bulgaria.
What were we thinking when we let someone like Frank Lloyd Wright design an Orthodox church?!!? This thing should be demolished. The Greek Orthodox community in Milwaukee really needs a traditional, proper place of worship, that is conducive to Orthodox worship and is not so distracting.
If you look a little closer, you'll see the imperfections that most pictures online don't point-out. One thing I would like to say is, Modernist architecture is not only an atrocity, it is more costly to maintain, and its materials don't hold-up against the elements. In the future, the concrete will show visible cracks. Metal reinforcement will be corroding if it isn't already.
I really hope this structure doesn't survive to be a century-old. If it does, I'm sure it will reach a point where the congregation has to decide weather to demolish it, or exhaust a significant amount of money to keep...
Read moreHave you ever attended a Greek Orthodox Service during the Easter Season? Holy Friday is remarkable for the reason that the hymns sung during this service chronicle the life, crucifixion and death of Jesus. The melodies are captivating and if I may, a shout out to Alexis Krenitsy Ganos, choir director who skillfully manipulates the beautiful voices within the very Byzantine chanting. The melodies this evening were the ones I grew up with and remind me of the time there were no seats to be had in this amphitheater like place of worship. God is here. Please attend our Easter Pascha midnight service… so much beauty and pageantry but faith filled, Biblical, ancient yet up to date. Tonight we passed beneath the Epitaphion, the cloth on which the body of Christ is depicted. We die with him but as we pass beneath, we emerge victorious and see a glimpse of...
Read moreVery disappointing experience with the “drive-through Greek festival” food offerings this year. We stopped by today at maybe 11:00ish. They were already completely out of lamb - so no gyros (?!). They didn’t even have a chicken dinner on their menu. Why on earth not offer one? Instead, we had to buy a whole chicken, a side Greek salad and a side of Greek rice to create our own. Chicken was way overdone, dry and not at all well seasoned - which is the whole reason you want Greek chicken. I hate to say this, but the rotisserie chicken at Sam’s Club is far more moist and flavorful. Greek salad had about 2 olives in it - and served with a little dinky container of dressing. And $28 for that?! I mean - I know we’re trying to support the church and all - but for the poor quality of the food, that is just insane. Really sorry to say this, but we will...
