Parking and knowing where to walk to this lighthouse was a complete challenge. We had to ask for help. We parked by the merry-go-round and walked away from the tourist area up the road until we saw a sign and then entered. For elderly; 65 or older or handicap you were able to drive your car to the lighthouse where there is parking at the end. There was security there, but no problem walking to the lighthouse.
We walked through a beautiful neighborhood on a narrow road with upscale homes to get to the lighthouse which was beautifully kept and it was absolutely breathtaking when we got there with scenic views of the Rhode Island beach and sea. There were a few people fishing along the rocky jagged shoreline before we approached the lighthouse.
We came here off-season so we were able to get up close to the lighthouse. This may not be the case when it’s busy because I read other reviews that you could not approach the light House.
If I ever return to Rhode Island I would make the time to come here again. It was well worth the walk...
Read moreYou can't park in the Lighthouse parking lot as the road down to it is lined with mansions, and they don't allow cars down there even though it's OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, but you can walk down. I parked in one of the off-street parking spots across the street thinking nothing of it. I assumed those spots were for Lighthouse and shop visitors. WRONG. I received a $150 parking ticket because those spots are for Westerly residents only, however the signs are few and far between. Once I got the ticket and actually looked down the street, yes, I saw the sign, but a person coming to see the Lighthouse won't be looking for them. I am a new resident of Pawcatuck and will absolutely be fighting this ticket. Lesson learned though...I will NEVER AGAIN go to Watch Hill for anything, and I will go out of my way to dissuade others from going there. After all...that's what they want, isn't it? Such a shame as the Lighthouse itself is beautiful, as are the views, but a $150 ticket??...
Read moreGreat location in Rhode Island to see the water and one of our many lighthouses.
It’s kind of tricky to find as it’s located all the way down a private road. Not too sure if a regular citizen is allowed to drive down and park there. We spoke to someone and said parking was for handicapped which makes sense. We parked on the road off season and walked down the private road. The road is narrow so walking with kids or a stroller just be aware.
When we were there the gates were open and we saw people walking right up. Again, it was off season so that might change with the time of year.
It’s hard not to give it 5 stars but the ability to access and possibly of parking issues makes it a 3.5-4 stars. If you want to get up close to a lighthouse, I would suggest Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown. Plus it looks similar to Watch...
