We had a lovely lunch here in the dining room overlooking the ocean. This is a favorite place of mine to eat. Always great service and delicious food. Our Lobster rolls were outstanding. A light and delicate dressing with a touch of lemon made these our favorite Lobster Rolls in RI and CT. That says a lot! And the fries were even cooked to perfection. The Clam Chowder was excellent except for the very small amount of clams. Delicious and flavorful broth with just the correct amount of cream. Now for the suggestion on the Crab Cakes. Maybe being this was a Monday, the head chef was off, so we did not return it. We did share with our server our displeasure, and that is rare for me. Our Crabcakes came greasy, almost like deep fried and all filler of Panko Crumbs. I found one tiny piece of crab in mine, and it fell through my fork. My guest found three small pieces in her crab cake. We both left the filler on our plates. Everything else was superb, including our delicious desserts. My Pear Cobbler was tasty and the chocolate dessert very good also. Our server was so kind and helpful. Very sweet and friendly. The hostesses were also warm and welcoming. I have had all previous experiences here 5-star! I gave a 4-star on this review on account of the Crabcakes. The ocean views and attentive service make The Bistro is a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Spending summers here, I love eating at The Bistro as the food is creative and the best in our surrounding area. I...
Read moreWe almost never made it here. We were able to make a 2:30 reservation and even were told we would be accommodated when I called to notify we were running a little late. We literally took 5 minute showers after a long 5+ mile hike and drove there as quickly as possible to make it by 2:45. Once we arrived we were told we were out of luck and we're misinformed and kind of went on without offering a solution or options or apology. I was gracious and asked the hostess to explain now what? So Christos was able to get us a table for 5:30 and after much debate in the car as to whether we should still dine here, we decided we. So not a great start but we made the most of it. Lesson learned, don't book a table for 2:30! Onwards. Lovely setting that is classic and traditional yet not stale or stuffy. Gorgeous ocean view backdrop in select seating. NY strip was the disappointment; way too gristly and tough to chew. Had steak two nights previously in 2 different Mystic restaurants with notable chefs and this was disappointing after we became accustomed to this standard. Had to listen to my husband complain all night about us not sending back a $40 tough piece of meat! Loved that gluten free rolls were offered to me! I'm celiac and this was a first. Salmon tartare was excellent. Drinks were good. The view and ambiance are worth going for at least drinks and small plates. Our servers Ian and JJ and Christo the host were...
Read moreWe went for lunch today. I'd have gone for the 5 stars, except that one of the appetizers was very blah. The weather was beautiful and we had the following:
Complimentary foccacia and butter and a lovely little watermelon relish to start. A bowl of clam chowder which was delicious. Clam spring rolls, which were sort of mushy inside and to me, a load of unnecessary calories and fat, since they were fried. We should have passed on those. I couldn't help thinking 'I hope these clams are cooked through'. A Thai Chicken Salad, which was amply portioned and delicious. A Cold Lobster Salad Roll that was good-sized, but would have benefitted from some celery mixed in and some lettuce in the sandwich. It came with fries that were no more exciting than you'd find in a fast-food restaurant. Iced coffee and iced tea (which was unfortunately, to my surprise, peach flavored--something I don't particularly like).
The wait staff was wonderful and attentive, except for not getting a spoon with the chowder.
The bill came to around 94.00 with tax, since we ordered no alcohol.
We asked for a seat by the window but were given one on the inside wall, which was fine, since the ocean view was positively spectacular anyway.
We'd recommend this place, but if you are planning on drinking alcoholic beverages, bring lots more money as wines by the glass start at about $12 and...
