Ten Sandwiches — Restaurant in Westerly

Major Food Safety Issue

This is my first ever online review as I typically keep any feedback I have regarding a business off line though in this case my family was impacted by major food safety issues at Ten Sandwiches and as such I want to warn anyone else who is thinking of patronizing this establishment to think twice.

Incident: After an awesome morning on the beach with my wife and 3 year old daughter I offered to go grab my family lunch so they could continue to relax. I thought lunch from Ten Sandwiches would be a great option (sadly I was mistaken...read on).

My daughter being 3 yrs old loves grilled cheeses so I ordered one for her as well as a salad and sandwich for my wife and self and brought the food back to the beach.

My daughter who usually digs in right away took a bite of her grilled cheese, swallowed and immediately gave a face and said it was yucky and did not want it. This was very unlike her. Thinking she was just in a mood my wife took a bite (and swallowed) trying and encourage her to eat. My wife immediately realized something was wrong and started to break apart the grilled cheese. What we found next is right out of horror novel.

They had made the grilled cheese sandwich with cheese singles AND DID NOT REMOVE THE PLASTIC. It was basically a grilled cheese and melted plastic sandwich!

I took what was left of the grilled cheese and melted plastic sandwich back to Ten Sandwich’s. The girl behind the counter said sorry very casually like it was no big deal and not like they had just served my 3 year old a melted plastic sandwich. The guy cooking the food in the back chimed in and said “let me check the cheese, oh there is plastic on the cheese”, crazy I know. The only remediation they offered was to refund the cost of the $8 grilled cheese.

I write all of this in detail as a warning to anyone else who is thinking of bringing there family to Ten Sandwiches. I have been summering in Watch Hill for 38 years, next summer I will not be going to Ten Sandwiches.

Date & Time of Incident: Monday August 5th 2019 approx 1pm.

• In response to owners claim of having no record of this incident, I have confirmed by checking my credit card statement that the merchant name is: TEN SANDWICHES Westerly , RI. I can ensure you I have nothing to gain by making this whole story up other than to keep other children safe. I have not asked for anything from Ten Sandwiches other than the initial $8 refund for the grilled Cheese.

I would recommend the owner speak with the staff on duty that day before public accusing a disappointed customer of lying.

I’ve been going to this place for years and it has completely gone down hill. Service is great in the front but I don’t know what’s going on with the kitchen…we ordered a #7 and this is what we got for a $17 sandwich… oil everywhere, slapped a piece of lettuce on and red onion barely chopped. The roll is stale and only the top part of the roll was cut, the remainder was not even cut all the way through. (Not that I care that much about it being cut…it’s the complete laziness or lack of culinary skills behind the kitchen clearly). I’ve been going here for years and all I can say is it’s perfect whenever I’m hungry I get a sandwich here if I’m hungry in the morning I get the berry smoothie here I LOVE TEN SANDWICHES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
