Motel experience at best. We travel all over to resorts, spas, and golf properties. We are currently staying for our tenth anniversary at this property and the expectations of the reviews have sadly not been met. I’ve tried to stay positive considering the occasion however each experience continues to disappoint. We arrived before check in yesterday to get a round of early morning golf at their Arnold Palmer course. They were able to hold our luggage though there was no valet in site. Front desk refused to call or text when room would be ready nor even take in consideration to take our name or give any education on the property. Arriving at the golf course we very confused on where and what to do. After finally walking all the way around the building to the bottom, we were finally greeted in a dusty golf shop to which we had to wait for them to fix a computer issue. We were told to check outside to which we were given a cart with no other instructions. We finally spoke to a friendly staff member who advised that we were in the cart line and would go in order to the course. (Please keep in mind there were two other customer carts just as confused as we were and figured it out together with us). The course is in need of serious repair. Based on the no rain, it has not been maintained and was hard, dry, and pretty much dead all over. The carts would have been nice with GPS and tracking if we didn’t have to push the buttons 3 times for each feature to use. Overall, I’m certain it was a beautiful course when Arnold Palmer first designed it but sadly no TLC has been given and would not recommend as special trip to play at this course. By the time we finished golfing, it was regular check in time so we did this and again no friendly suggestions or education on the resort. Bellman was nice and delivered our luggage to our dated and again not maintained sleeping room. Now I have also worked at resorts so I understand limitations on housekeeping to turn a room however it was not good and the company has not taken the time to replace unclean items in the room. For example, other people hair on blankets, marking of cups and whatever else on bathroom counters, spots on the mirrors, cobwebs in all of the corners and filthy stains on the curtains. Are you telling me they can’t at least replace the curtains?! Now the hair again I get it not all comes off in wash so I just picked it off. Maybe they missed the mirror spots, but the sink and curtains were definitely gross. This is not the service that we paid for- which is a clean and sanitized room to rest in. From pure exhaustion and aggravation of maybe having to move our luggage, we just cleaned the room ourselves and took a nap. Dinner did not get better. Three times asking for water from a waitress who was friendly but very forgettable led to a two hour hostage situation of consuming the rest of our evening. The staff could not find the manager on duty so advised they would comp the meal and tried to give us an anniversary dessert in which we refused. It wasn’t the meal or the price but the time that was lost that upset us more than anything. We discovered that they had a spa on property that evening however we were told by front desk that only spa could do reservations and was closed until the next day. When I called at 9am, I was told the Swedish couple massage service that we wanted from their menu could not be accommodated so now here I am having to write this Karen review in which I was trying really hard not to do, but this experience could not have gone completely opposite of what we had hoped for. We may not even continue this stay and just leave today considering it is only two hours away...
Read moreHi, I would love to discuss our experience with the Santa spectacular. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. For starters, the glow sticks were an absolute horrible idea. I can speak for almost every mom there. It was just a constant anxiety attack over if your kid was going to get hit or be hitting. Second off you guys brought Santa and the Grinch in for 5 min got the kids wound up and then asked them to sit down to do bingo. A bingo they couldn't even read or know the songs too. It lasted almost the ENTIRE party!! Kids were running around with their mock swords, hiding under tables, running into the hallway, etc, while parents tried to follow an bingo game where songs such as “Lit for Christmas”, “I Saw Santa in a Bar”, and “I want a Mistress for Christmas” were played! Did you really think these songs were appropriate for children?? Also where was Rudolph and some of the other characters that were mentioned. Absolutely no activities to keep the kids entertained. If you noticed half of the people left early to go back to their rooms because they had just had enough. We also heard some of the staff complain about children playing with the balloon arch and destroying it, but honestly who was entertaining these kids? My husband overheard one staff member state that he was pulling security cameras to see who destroyed the balloons because it was to be used for the party the next day!! Someone that put this “kid friendly” event together clearly doesn’t have kids. This could have been a very fun event but it just wasn't. I hope in the future you work on this to improve it. It was a pretty big price for a one night event for what it was. We would have much rather spent our money elsewhere. I was also told 2 1/2 weeks ago that someone from leadership would be contacting me, however, I’ve heard nothing! I would really like to be compensated for an event that I expected to be rated G for kids that wasn’t. An event where I thought my child would have child-friendly activities planned. The only thing he enjoyed was ice skating when we left the party early. However, the ice skating was an additional charge that myself and my friends had to pay for when we left the party because we all felt so bad that our kids didn’t have...
Read moreStonewall is an incredibly quiet resort. It’s picturesque but it’s quiet. The whole boating area around stonewall resort is a no wake zone. The pool is ok, half indoor (small) half outdoor. A larger area around the indoor area would be nice. The pool lacks a swim up bar… the rooms are less resort like and more like a hotel. They are clean and decent but just like a hotel, if you are staying at the resort. The beds are very comfortable. They have a firmer mattress with pillow like top. The bedding is down and the pillows are great. The rooms very much a lack a patio or balcony! There are 3 restaurants here which will be nice to try out. There is only one boat cruise offered on Tuesdays and of course they was sold out for both times 1-3 and the evening hours. There is a cool walking bridge that takes you across the lake to a campground. Wonder if people get rowdy over there. The bridge is wide and disability friendly. But there is a gravel hill going up and down so if your in a wheelchair be careful and take it slow. The restaurants are not easy to get a hold of but recommend to reserve ahead of time for at least the lightburn restaurant ! The staff are a friendly as well as the customers. The drinks are pricey so byob unless at lunch/dinner. We have yet to explore the town of Westen or Roanoke but seem slow and lazy. There are miles of Walking trails around the lake. The golf course looks pretty nice but will also need to check out tomorrow. They do have golf carts if you were wondering….I do not recommend coming here with a bunch of young friends, maybe older family members and kids … you can rent...
