Very popular spot, even on a weekday. There are a lot of parking spots, so I could see this filling up beyond capacity on a weekend, hence show up as early as you can. Unlike other beaches in area, no motor vehicles can go on this beach, which is a plus.
There are many paths from the lot to the beach on either side of the jetty. The most level spot if you’re carrying or pulling something to the beach to get onto it seems to be directly west of the bathrooms. Going north of the bathroom will put you at the top of a “cliff” that isn’t as easy to walk down with hands full.
The beach itself is great. It goes from very soft sand to packed wet sand to the ocean. Lots of rocks and shells along the beach to check out. Some jellys were washing up, so be wary of not wearing water shoes or sandals.
There is plenty of beach to have your own little spot. Again, during weekend it could be a lot more full but it’s still a large enough beach to have room. We went on a nice day around the area, but it was windy on the beach and the fog never lifted. In fact it turned towards the beach as we left around 3 or 4 and turned into “pea soup” so we couldn’t see the waves or people around us. Even so, we throughly enjoyed ourselves and would...
Read moreWe visited today with our 2 year old and niece and nephew (8 and 3). You can park in front of the lighthouse and along the road. If you park in the parking lot you need a Discover Pass and there is a pay station. The restroom is located next to the parking lot. All areas were neat and clean. The Google maps version and other internet sites have conflicting information regarding hours, fees, and other restrictions so do your homework. Kids 5 and under cannot ascend the lighthouse. We had a lot of fun on the beach and all the kids played for hours. Little trails and directions are not given so if you are directionally challenged stick to asphalt. The park is adjacent to Coast Guard lands and you are not allowed there and it is a surprise when you stumble upon it and need to double back because you cannot continue on that path. Wheelchairs would not be able to access the lighthouse but can navigate the grounds and asphalt walkways. We did not fully explore so I am not sure if there is easy beach access for those with mobility concerns. We had to walk down a path and climb over some driftwood to get to the beach (carried the 2 year old and the other...
Read moreStopped at the Westport Light State Park on the Westhaven beach side and checked out the surfers, watched the waves, and then checked out the small pond. Then, went to visit the Gray's Harbor Lighthouse, but it was closed, so were only able to get a few pics. Next, we went to the other side of the park and walked the Trail System. Nice spot to go for a walk, enjoy the views of the Sound, watch kites in the sky, check out all the memorial benches, viewpoints, and you can see the top of the lighthouse along the trail. Both sides have bathrooms by the parking area and one side (non Westhaven Beach side) has picnic tables and BBQs. The lighthouse is $5 but check the opening hours as I think they are only open Sat/Sun. We went back the next day and it was going to be a 45 minute wait in the rain so we left. They only allow 8 people inside the lighthouse at a time due to tight quarters at the top. We had 4 people ahead of us and didn't know how long the 8 people were going to...
