Was greeted immediately as we walked up towards the lighthouse, very friendly interaction and the price was reasonable. Was interrupted by a large white dog unleashed. I didn't appreciate an unknown dog running up to me and my kids especially being a pit bull. The guy at the bottom apologized and blocked contact from the dog. Walking up the narrow stairs there was a group coming down which was incredibly awkward as we all had to smush against the wall and railing, this seemed very unsafe. Noticed there was another group coming up shortly after us and didn't think much of it until we got to the top as there was a large group already there. We all ended up being pretty crowded. I have visited before years ago and noticed there was a huge difference, there is no communication whatsoever on people going up and down as to avoid us being cramped. Isn't there a limit? The guy at the top was very dismissive and short to questions pertaining to the lighthouse and it's history. The whole experience was very off-putting compared to a few years ago. I think there should be a change in communication as safety of the public clearly lacks especially for future tours of people who want to enjoy this historical monument and feel safe while doing so. Also there are leash laws for a reason, not everyone is comfortable with a huge unknown dog approaching them, friendly or not. Safety should be first priority when allowing the public to do tours like this, especially on a busy holiday like today. It will only become busier the nicer it gets. Great concept would like to see a positive change for the future however. I cannot recommend until this...
Read moreWebsite said open. When we arrived there was a family with a young kid looking around, a few elders and some other couples. No “volunteer” in site. I am sure the elders, couples and families had this specifically on the agenda for the day and seemed disappointed. I felt specific empathy for the family with the little kid. I knocked on the RV that was a matter of feet from the lighthouse, it had a fence and lots of flowers in its makeshift yard so I figured they were the hosts. Before I got to the door I could smell pot. I stepped 10 ft away. When the man opened the door the smell was extremely intense. He said they are closed because of heat. When I tried to communicate with him he said he is just a volunteer. FYI. If you are getting a place to live for free you are not just a volunteer. You are there to provide a service. At minimum put your smoke down, go outside and sit in the shade if needed and communicate with the families that went out of their way to visit. Also, it was 79 degrees at...
Read moreThe lighthouse is amazing! We went early on Saturday (05/10/25) and didn't have to wait. We were welcomed immediately and escorted to the gift shop to buy our tickets. From there we went to the lighthouse and began our trek. We were able to look at everything at the entrance and climb up the 135 steps at our own pace. When we got to the top of the main stairs we met a guide that took us to the very top where the lens is located. The guide was very knowledgeable! The views were amazing! The trek down was self-paced and we had no problems! Totally worth it. My kiddo (9) had no problems going up and down the stairs. GPS had tried to take us down the closed driveway. There's plenty of free street parking and it's a short walk to the lighthouse. At the time of this review, it was $5 each to go up to the top. We saw other visitors who just wanted to look and take pictures which is free. I recommend going to the top! How often do you get to go inside a...
