18/8 Fine Men’s Salons — Attraction in Westwood

Last Thursday, I decided to treat myself to a very different (and far more luxurious) haircut experience than any I’ve ever experienced before, and made an appointment with Paige at the 18/8 Men’s Salon in Westwood. Although the exterior (which is near the “Panda” Chinese place, at the north end of the University Place shopping center) doesn’t indicate as much, the interior has the perfect balance of modern tech and understated luxury, with charcoal gray and oiled wood finishes. My cut began with a nice scalp treatment & massage, followed by a shampoo and conditioning, and then some sort of refreshing tea tree finisher, followed by the most even haircut in recent memory. After that, Paige shaved the back of my neck with a straight razor (a first for me), then gave me a facial (another first!) and finished up with a moist, hot towel treatment that, as my wife and daughter would say, was “to die for”! All in all, it was an absolutely amazing experience, with my new “regular” barber, Paige (whose work is anything but “regular”) exceeding my expectations at every turn!

We were in search of a new place to get my boys hair cut for the first time in 6 months and stumbled upon this place, looked a bit pricey (ended up $25 each, i thought the site said $30) but needed some really good haircuts so we made an super easy online reservation, literally 2 hours before the appt. We saw Paige and she was such a delight, my 7 year old went first and Paige made him super comfortable and did a great job translating my horrible description of the "look" we were going for. He looks so handsome. The 4 year was next for his first ever haircut which I was panicked about because... well, thats my baby and his hair is so long and beautiful. Paige made the experience painless and he looks kickass with his new low fade man bun lol. All the employees were super kind and the place was really nice. My first visit was great, and I left feeling confident with a new style. Unfortunately I rolled the dice on a different stylist for my second visit due to schedule constraints and I am very underwhelmed. The cut is uneven, and very much not what I asked for. During the appointment I told the stylist twice that I do not wear my hair the way she was trying to style it, nor do I use the products she was recommending. I already purchased 3 products during my first visit, and felt like I was being ignored. When the stylist finally picked up that I wasn't liking the haircut, she kept telling me how good it looked, which I found extremely frustrating. Ultimately my hair is not cut in a way I feel good styling, and I will be finding someone else to fix it.
