It’s an ok island to visit. The island struggles with people who wish to make that a retirement island. Lack of quality repair workers (there are workers but will not work if the job isn’t above 2k. The lack of doctors and medical options on the island is an issue with someone who has cancer. Mail is a pain some companies will not ship to island. The ferry service costs money about 20 to 40 dollars round trip. You can drive all the way North to use bridge but cost of gas. An alarming number of American hate groups on Whidbey Island which has a military base. Drug issues by the Walmart. West end of island is falling into ocean waters. Some People seem to be wound up tight and judgmental. Outside of the those things there are some 4-5 restaurants, some 3-4 star stores and some 4-5 star events. Plenty to do that doesn’t cost extra money. Some dog parks aren’t the greatest. Cost of living their is to high for what’s available. One of The best donut shops/restaurant on the island shut down because of people who owned property. Medical insurance is a hassle. Beautiful scenery most days. There is a fantastic food scene, outdoor activities, wineries and art galleries to boot. Bring your dog to one of the many dog parks or the off leash beach. From the North, take in the scene as your stomach hugs your throat as you look off the edge of the bridge over Deception Pass and then drive down into Deception Pass State Park. After a swim and hike, head to Oak Harbor (the big city 🤣) for your box store needs, Fort Casey if you’re a history buff, Coupeville for your drive in movie at Blue Fox Theater, Ebey’s Landing for a nice hiking loop with great views, Greenbank to take your dog off leash, Freeland for their fantastic county fair in the summer, and Langley for a bite to eat. Read moreWashington was a little cold for me. But the good outweighed all of that. I spent family time seeing this beautiful place during Thanksgiving. I wanted my kids to have better memories of holidays than the ones that I had the few + years before I both of them. Luckily I got what I wanted in Washington. Not only did I get the son that I never expected, but I got to see my side of the family along with Blake's side. We drove along the ocean to get to our destination. I dont even remember how long a drive was along the Ocean but the scenery made me love road trips. The town we explored with my in laws and family, reminded me of something you would find in Alaska. There are stores and stuff there, but it has scenery everywhere that isn't covered in buildings. I would recommend this place, just dress in multiple layers of clothing, and make sure your vehicle...
