First time visiting the People’s Republic of Whitefish. They cordoned off areas with fencing and cones. I was nervous that if I took a wrong step I’d violate city ordinance #5342. There are shrill signs everywhere”crowded beach=closed beach” etc. It should be called Prude beach because alcohol is prohibited. I don’t want spring break conditions but I can’t even legally enjoy a cold beer responsibly. I thought Montana was the land of cowboys but apparently it’s a nanny state. I felt so boxed in around fencing, caution tape, cones and thousands of signs. I had such a hard time taking a picture without the city’s authoritarian paraphernalia in view. The view of the mountains is spectacular though. Then I see a mop head teenager with a city T shirt carrying more cones and rope and I tell my husband Oh God they’re boxing us in even more. The water is refreshing when it’s over 90 out in the summer and clean. Great sand for Montana. Very...
Read moreTotally worth the trip to Whitefish from Kalispell. Amazing beach amidst mountains. The view is spectacular. Nice sandy beach kids had fun building sand castles, water was a bit cold to get in but kids still did nice swimmable beach with picnic tables both shaded and unshaded. There is a long pier for some amazing views of the lake. There is a boat launching dock nicely built. Nicely paved trail accessible for both wheelchair & stroller. -What they need is a ramp to access beach for wheelchair & stroller as it was hard for us to bring stroller down to the beach. Ample washroom, however remians closed in winter. Ample parking right on the beach and its free. Check out tons of videos & images. &...
Read moreThis is a nice little beach in whitefish downtown. Parking was very easy to find when we were there but can imagine it getting pretty crowded during busy days. Water is pretty cold but if you go on a sunny day, it's still pretty refreshing. And it has a very shallow entry, so great for little kids too. There's a beach rental shop where you can rent kayaks, folding chairs, beach tents etc. If you have kids, bring sand toys or you might find some deserted toys like we did. There is a single changing room and some restrooms which were fairly clean. And an ice cream shop too, though with limited hours. We really enjoyed our time here and came back another day in our 4 day stay in the...
