I am so upset after our most recent experience. This is one of my favorite places to take friends and family so I'm very familiar with the wines and the lovely people that work here but I'm genuinely upset with how we were treated today by Jose. I know, one employee's poor behavior on one given day should not define a business so I do still strongly encourage this to be a part of your wimberly experience because I love that you get to select 5 wines off their list of wines for $18 which is perfect! Their wines are reasonably priced and the property is beautiful and most of their staff is friendly and kind from my several experiences besides today's.
Jose Review: From the moment we walked in, she was a curt and passive because we opted to wait for a tasting instead of buying a bottle or glass (my friends were younger and inexperienced so reasonable to wait, right? apparently not to her...) When we started our tasting, she'd pour and disappear for a while even when we were finished and waiting for a while. She'd help other customers out two-three times before coming back to us huffy. Every time I've been here the friendly staff always encourage us to change our selection if we tried our friend's glass and didn't like it (why drink something you're not going to enjoy?) But when 3 of us did this 1 single time (politely), she then snapped at us that we were ruining it by changing it up on her and drinking them in the wrong order (okay yes theres an order but she started me off on sweet before dry to begin with but yeah...how dare we change our mind so we enjoy our experience more and walk out with something we'd actually want...) We immediately shut down, embarrassed and uncomfortable with how she made us feel up to that point. She came back and passive aggressively asked why we were quiet because it made HER feel uncomfortable. Once again, making us feel even more uncomfortable. She then spent the last 5 minutes practically glued to our counter being fake polite when we could barely get her attention for more than 15 seconds up till that point. We left uncomfortable, and I left upset that MY recommendation left my friends with a sour taste in their mouth. Jose, if you were having a bad day, I'm sorry. but, I hope you realize that snapping at your customers then putting us on the spot when you know you messed up, is not going to make the...
Read moreHonestly, I'm disappointed in the experience of this place. We saw the reviews of this winery and thought it would be a fun part of our weekend trip, so my three friends and I came in for a wine tasting inside their bar and we were surprised about the snooty service and multiple issues we had. First off, when we were pointed to which bar we'd be tasting at, there was a dirty tissue on the ground that was at our station (which I had kicked away, not wanting to make a fuss out of it). It apparently wasn't cleaned yet before we arrived, so our sommelier wiped it down before placing the menus down. In addition, we were placed right by the exit/entrance door to their storage room where we constantly shuffled away to not block the staff coming in and out.
When she quickly put down some menus and expo markers and asked us to pick 5 wines to try and walked away, she didn't really care to pause and help us with decisions, so I stepped in to help my friends who were less knowledgeable about wines. Throughout our wine tasting process, our sommelier also made really strange comments to us, saying multiple times: "This particular wine is really expensive, so that's why you only get a splash." Not sure why that was necessary to repeatedly state that? It wasn't encouraging us to purchase anything, especially when we weren't enjoying the particular tastes of our wine and she didn't bother helping us give recommendations, other than asking if we had any questions after we already picked our choices. When one of my friends asked about the bathrooms not working, she just curtly answered it was because the pressure gauge was off for the whole place due to the Wells. I understand that's not entirely in their control, but she did not have to respond in a rude way, and unfortunately my friends had to hold their bladders until we got back to our cabin bathroom.
Overall, I recommend people skip the wine tasting indoors and just go straight to the outdoor patios to check out the cute red bus that has the express wine bar service. The person in there seemed a lot nicer, and there were places we could've sat down and enjoyed the nice weather, instead of standing the whole time interacting with our rude...
Read moreIt seems like there is polarization at this place. Some love the place but not the wine. Some like the wine but not the service. Now I will add my experience.
Yesterday was my seventh visit. And it was the best and worst of them all. The wines were actually good. We haven’t had good wine in Texas since we moved to the west coast. But the sweet white was a delight; enough to buy a bottle. The server (a man; I forgot his name) was even sweeter than the wine. He was knowledgeable, helpful and went above/beyond. In short: par excellence.
Then we went to the food truck. The graying sky and the wind picking up should’ve been the cinematic intro to the Wicked Witch of Wimberley Winery. Not only did I not receive a welcome, I read loud and clear I was an annoyance whilst deciding on food. And I got no help. When I asked between two pizzas; I got apathy/silence. When I realized what I ordered came with a side, I didn’t even want to know what my choices were. The interaction was obvious that he didn’t want to help me. I just took my bleepie/pager thingamabob and hoped I didn’t just spend $45 for angry food. But I didn’t. The food was good. The burger well made and the pear pizza was a hit with the veggies in my group.
So the winery was the best visit of the 7! New addition is beautiful; service was great; wines were improved. Food taste. Five stars. Food experience. One star. So it’s an averaged 3 for me.
And yes, men can be...
