I have long had a deep appreciation for metal smithing, specifically handmade sterling silver, and mixed metals, whether it be one of a kind jewelry, hollowware, boxes, etc. I finally looked around to take classes and am now on my second session of classes at SilverSpiral Creations. Lynne Patnaude is an excellent instructor. She explains things patiently and thoroughly. She does careful and comprehensive demonstrations. No matter how many times she gets the same question from we students in the class, she answers them thoughtfully and kindly. I have learned so much in a short period of time, and appreciate the decade + knowledge she brings to the instruction. We also learn from the other students, and she always asks if she can use our pieces to explain to the other students what we did right, or what didn't work out as we wished. The shop has top notch equipment, there is a work bench for everyone, and plenty of materials to bring our ideas to fruition. She has a beautiful array of handcrafted items for sale, that are inspiring, and once you make your own things, the appreciation for well made jewelry deepens. WORTH EVERY PENNY - THE BEST LAPIDARY WORKSHOP! Over the years, I have taken many metalsmithing classes and by far, Joe was the one of the most informative, well prepared and most enthusiastic instructors I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class with. He was patient, encouraged questions and personally assisted each individual, making sure each student understood the core basics of cabochon making, while grinding their personal stone/cabochon to take home. He is an asset to his craft. I can't say enough positive things about him, the professional equipment used in the class and the studio where the workshop was held. Classes with Lynne have been such a great experience! She is so knowledgeable and an ever evolving student herself. Reading reviews of other studios makes me confident no one has a set up like she does. She has ALL the tools/machines you could possibly want to try and a fully outfitted bench for each student. If you are considering a beginner silversmith class or looking for a place to grow on your existing knowledge this is the place. She also offers intensives and workshops for those who can’t commit to a 6 week class. I can’t say enough good things. Just do it. Book the class.
