Completed in 1886 and crossing the Connecticut River, this bridge joins the communities of Windsor Vermont with Cornish New Hampshire. It is 449 feet long and was the longest covered bridge in the United States until the Smolen-Gulf Bridge in Ashtabula Ohio was built. It is still both the longest wooden covered bridge and it is the longest single span that still carries automobile traffic.

The bridge is the fourth on this site with the 1796, 1824 and 1849 bridges all washed away by flood waters. It was purchased by the State of New Hampshire in 1936 and they removed all tolls from the bridge in 1943.

We love traveling to Vermont because the state's peaceful vibe and natural beauty are truly unique.

We discovered that Vermont has over 100 covered bridges, which are significant to the state's cultural and historical heritage. Among them is the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge, which spans 449 feet (137 meters), making it the longest wooden covered bridge in the United States and the longest two-span covered bridge in the world.

Built in 1866, the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge has become one of New England's cherished landmarks in both New Hampshire and Vermont.

The Bridge is still in use today. It is also a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors interested in its history and...
