Some sites are a little close together in a few areas, so choose a site wisely. All sites are sand, which isn't "bad," but it does mean you track some of it with you. A review a few weeks prior stated there were catapillars everywhere and supplied images, which did have me concerned before arrival. By the time we had arrived, they had all seemed to be eradicated as there were still some carcasses to be viewed on trees and stuff....(again, in no way "bad," just nature. Those pillars are an invasive species, and I was glad to see them handled quickly.) Bathrooms were cleaner than most, although... dotake an extra light with you in case the stall light isn't on. (There is a tiny button on the bottom of them for on/off. ;) ) The sites in Yankee Springs are well managed and patrolled regularly. Pumps and bathrooms are checked multiple times per day, even during weekdays. Fishing is available, and fish were indeed caught... but nothing of "keeper" size. It's more of a "feed the fish" scenario but still wildly enjoyable. Worms were the only thing that seemed to work. All lures and cast/retrieve techniques did not yield a single bite. Tried morning afternoon and evening. Water was posted as "no swimming," but wading seems to be encouraged or at least tolerated. Be advised that there are some weeds about 10ft out from shore, but go away after another 10ft or so and give way to deep/clear water. I suggest bringing a kayak if you have one. I wish I had. Raccoons patrol camp (Deep Lake Rustic) nightly at about midnight. If you stay up and sit quietly, you can see/hear them. And like all woods, yes, there are tiny little field mice, too. I had one rooting around the tarp covering my wood pile....again, not bad, just nature. There are several trails and tons of wildlife. Specifically, we saw or heard; A tiny frog that fits on the tip of your finger. 4-6 different species of butterfly. Insects and bugs including moths, mosquitoes, tiny flies, beetles, 4 or 5 kinds of ant, cicada, native catapillar, etc. Birds, including osprey and owls. Heard wolf/coyote/wild dog pack 2 or 3 nights. A silkworm. And I think the worst thing was that we had horseflies intermixed with the mosquitoes...but a touch of bug spray handled all that real quick. For those that drink, alcohol was prohibited at the Deep Lake site, but we aren't drinkers, so that didn't...
Read moreI stayed at this campground with my family and friends (altogether there were 10 of us) on two adjacent lots recently. We had an RV and camper. While the campground is beautiful, we spent the entire weekend looking over our shoulders due to the overzealous park rangers. I am NOT one to be loud and neither is this group. The first night we were there, an officer came by and told us that quiet hours began at 11pm and to turn our music off. We happily obliged and apologized, turned it off, and began talking much quieter. The campers next to us came over and asked what the rangers wanted, we told them what had happened, and they told us they couldn't even hear us talking OR playing music. 11:30 comes around and the same officer came back and told us we were talking too loud (mind you, people inside the camper couldn't even hear us talking outside), this time he got angry and told us that he would have us thrown out the next morning essentially if we did not go to bed. We brought this up the next morning to different rangers who said that they would follow-up on it. The next night, we made it a point to talk even MORE quietly and at 12:00AM, we thought we were doing great! Nope, another park ranger came over and said we were being too loud. The camp was NOT that full and there was no one around aside aside from the people who talked with us the night before who had been camping there for years. They even said that they have never seen the rangers be that ridiculous. It just felt like we had a target on our backs the entire weekend as they patrolled more closely to our site during the day and night and just seemed to have it out for our group. Maybe it's because we were younger, but it definitely wasn't because we were loud. They ruined what was supposed to be an awesome weekend! So long story short, if you are a group of young adults or even a larger group, don't come to this camp site unless you want to be harassed by their park rangers. We certainly will...
Read moreI have been coming to this campground for about 20 years now with my parents and now my family and I will not be returning until some major updates are made to their electrical system. We stayed from June 26-July 4 (we were supposed to leave July 5 but due to the issues we were having had to leave a day early.) The first weekend we did not experience any issues but as the campground started to fill up for the Holiday weekend the issues began on Wednesday. The power would cut out frequently throughout the afternoon and evening. We reported our issues to the rangers that tried to fix the issue over the next few days but were not successful. My husband wasted several hours waiting for the rangers to show up and missed out on family time because of it. The lead ranger came out one night with an electrician to look at our electrical box and we were later told by him that we inconvenienced him because he had to come out on his day off. Maybe if they actually took care of the problems they have he wouldn't have to come out on his day off. Saturday we went out on the boat and came back to a camper that had not had the a/c running for several hours as it was about 90 degrees inside. We tried to just run the fan but after a while that didn't even work. By the time it was late afternoon we couldn't even have our fridge on electric and had to switch it to gas. That is when we decided to go home because the rangers were not going to fix it for us. We know it was not our camper as we tried plugging into an empty nearby campsite on Wednesday and Thursday and did not have any issues. They did refund some of our stay but that does not make up for the wasted time and frustration we experienced not to mentioned how disappointed our kids were to have to leave a night early because we had no electricity at that point. The maintenance and poor management made for a horrible experience. We heard from several other campers that they were also having issues however not as...
