Lake Williams — Attraction in York Township

Lake Williams is gorgeous and it's a great place to hike, walk dogs and go fishing. That is, when there's water. The lake has been entirely drained for the damn reconstruction project as of April 2022. This review is May 23rd 2022. The lake is still dry. When I'm saying dry, I'm talking bone dry. Zero access to water. Zero access to the lake itself because you're to stay off of the lake bed during the construction project. Hence the reason I'm only giving it three stars. Because who knows how long fish populations will take to establish when the construction project is done? I've seen this done elsewhere and it took decades until there was a solid fishable habitat again. Nobody's fault. That's just how it is. The trails are still open though so you can still enjoy a nice hike. At least someday the lake will be refilled and full of fish. Many other places I've known of, the lake was drained and...

Lake Williams is my favorite lake to visit! You can kayak, paddle surf, fish, hike and have picnics. I see bald eagles there a good bit and other birds too. There is a hiking trail that loops the whole way around the lake. It's about a 4.5 mile hike, so bring water and a snack. It is mainly forest that you hike through, but there are a few spots where you have a good view of the lake and other areas too. They have benches for picnics, just make sure not to bring alcohol, you will get fined. I believe there is no swimming either, but don't be afraid to dip your feet in or look for crayfish.
