Unpleasant history facts for France, USA and the south Viet Regime. I didn't expect something rude and cruel like that, cause I visited german Nazi KZ Camps, where the prisoners (political, Jewish Religious, Homosexual humans) were detented and tortured, often send to an industrialized killing site like Ausschwitz later. But they had even something like a 'bed' to lie on, 3 persons vertical "stored", but not this permanent foot iron Con Dao style. These awful leaders of the "prisons" didn' t need any extermination camp there, because the treatment produced so many casualties, and corpses rot very fast in this climate. There are no reasons to deny such facts if you study Vietnams history carefully, and almost every Europe country during their colonial periods comitted genocidal crimes to many people allover the world. After visiting the War remnant museum and the area of Cu Chi another shocking site for me, also because my country was involved in these dirty wars, supporting the French Legion with former "Waffen-SS" personal just several month after A. Hitlers Horror-Regime. And later Germany aided the US-warfare, producing chemicals for Agent Orange defoliants (Boehringer Ingelheim).
My deepest respect for the people of Vietnam, which stood countless atrocities and are able to forgive, but not to forget.
But this Island is worth to visit because of its beautiful beaches, Coral reefs, tropical forests, landscapes...
Read moreVisiting the old prison, I found myself alone, which only intensified the somber and haunting atmosphere of this historical site. Despite a brief walkthrough that lasted under 30 minutes, the well-maintained condition of the prison and museum left a lasting impression. The museum, in particular, evoked strong emotions, effectively complementing the physical exploration of the prison grounds.
The display of cages, buildings, and lifelike human models, although unsettling at times, serves as a stark reminder of the grim realities once faced here. These elements are thoughtfully curated to shed light on the harrowing experiences of those who were imprisoned and tormented under French and American colonial rule.
This visit is crucial for anyone on the island to truly honor and remember the unimaginable horrors and suffering endured by many. It's a profound tribute to those who lived and died under those horrific circumstances, and it offers a palpable sense of the past's lingering horrors. I highly recommend this experience as a necessary part of understanding and...
Read moreThe Con Doa prison, also known as Hell on Earth was built by the French Colonial government and used by both the French colonist and US imperialists to imprison and torture political dissidents. The prison is notorious for the Tiger Cages. The tiger cages were constructed away from the main prison, only accessed by an separate alleyway. They were unknown to the outside world until 1970. The size of each cell is only 1.45m x 2.5m with ceiling bars where guards could poke at prisoners with sticks or pour quicklime and water on the prisoners which caused blindness and burning their already damaged skin or Each of the solitary cells sometimes housed up to 12 people, hence the prisoners struggled to eat, sleep and even excrete. Further there were 60 cells without roofs, where prisoners were exposed to direct sunlight and left to dry. This historic relic is haunting reminder of the atrocities of colonists/imperalists and bore testimony to the great sacrifice of heroic Vietnamese...
