I booked here without hesitating due to the outstanding reviews. The hosts/owners Shirley and Mariano are super nice and helpful and treat you like family. Christian, the night manager is also very kind and willing to help. Location is really good, on a nice avenue full of shops and restaurants. There is a very convenient supermarket one minute away, the bus stop is almost across the street and there is a travel agency with very good options and prices for tours in front of the hostel (at the corner) I was there during the Easter holiday, which means that it was full of local guests. There are 22 beds, but only 2 bathrooms, which is totally insufficient, and it shows in terms of lack of hot water and waiting lines. No soap bars to wash your hands and no hand dryers or towels for this purpose. I left a soap bar in the bathroom for this purpose and it disappeared some hours later. The shower floaded and I ckecked if there was some hair blocking the drain, but i guess the pipes were blocked for this, and for the smell. Breakfast is pretty basic, coffee/tea, toast, butter and jam, which is standard in Argentina. The hostel needs some maintenance, paint and plumbing (for the bathrooms),no big deal, but the lack of bathrooms IS actually inconvenient for the pax.Beds were standars, blankets and pillows, OK, and the wi fi and computer for guests were very good. In a nutshell: Staff and location get an A+, but the house needs some work, considering that the have a Hostelling International certification. I found it pretty basic and so many good reviews may have raised my...
Read moreWhen I got to Merlo Hostel, I told Mariano I'd only be there one night. I think I stayed for 5. The location is perfect- walking distance to the center but somehow blocked from all the noise so you will get a good night's sleep. I did a lot of painting and was very well taken care of.||||Mariano is an excellent host and a master asador! I had a great stay and made a lot of new friends (who I still miss :) . I will...
