Geelong Showgrounds — Hotel in Barwon South West

We payed in advance..and given a site at the Geelong show grounds. This site was unsuitable to us because it was under a gumtree. However we decided to stay one night as the office was closed What we didn't know was the site was the roosting place of hundreds of cockatoos. The mess in the morning was terrible poo covered the van and our cars. Went to the office to get a move shut till Monday..tried to ring the office number rung out 3 times during the day. I saw a cleaner and asked her. She was a contract cleaner and didn't have an after hours number for the grounds. She rang her boss and his name was Terry..he said the park was booked out..and yet the showgrounds were 90% empty ?? We decided to pack up and move to anther site and sort this out with the management come Monday. The woman at the desk seemed confused. Well you can stay 4 days there then have to move out to anther spot I asked how and why should we have to pack up and move. When clearly the park was near empty . Because those spots have been taken up..?? By there own paper work sites ARE NOT ALACATED till people arrive at the office at 1300 (1pm). To keep things on an even keel I left it at that and moved again to anther site 40 yards away on the 4 day expecting the site we moved out of would be filled but guess what no one arrived. And we have to move again in 2 days. This showgrounds is run by the inmates incompetent people to say the least. No staff on the weekends no contact number available after hours..amenities not up to scratch. Dogs running free and no security Gates left open 24/7 Campers and caravaners come and go with out recourse or payment on the weekend...because there is no one here so they can pay.. We are moving and not staying in this 2nd rate place. We gave them 7 days notice of our intention and wanted a refund for the few days we wouldn't be here bur no joy there we. We're told by the office there was nothing with the original site so they can't offer a refund.. My advise give this place a big miss except on the weekends no one here camp where u...

Whatever you do don't stay here and these are the reasons why. At $45 per night powered they take advantage of travelers waiting for the Spirit. Go to any of the other local caravan parks for the same price, like the Tasman Holiday Park, and at least you will get cleaned amenities every day, a pool, camp kitchen and laundry if you need it.

I stayed at the Geelong Showgrounds for a total of 4 nights. I was waiting it out to go on The Spirit of Tasmania on the 6th December. Which is tomorrow.

The new Amenities Block, which has a row of individual Showers and Toilets were Not Cleaned for the ENTIRE duration of my stay!!! I made contact with several other Motorhomers and Caravaners and they confirmed the same. They were not impressed either.

It is the most expensive Showgrounds from FNQ to the Vic border. Others were $19 through to $25 powered. All others Amenities Blocks were cleaned everyday around 10-11am

Admin does not inform everyone, when you pay to stay an extra day or two, that they have changed the code for the Grubby Showers and Toilets. This having people running around in the dark asking what the hell has happened to getting into the Amenities Block!! It was cold and windy and 2 other people who were parked near me had to ask if I knew the new code. Luckily I did because I asked a new person who came in that day.

Michelle's attitude was quite disgraceful. She took a very defensive stand against my bringing up these facts. I informed her that she should be apologizing and should take the complaints on board and then fix them. I then informed her that I am in the industry and know when something has not been cleaned. The code issue - her response - she couldn't care less. I would have given her her marching orders on the spot, for being so sickeningly rude and for speaking to me in the way that she did!!

I have not come across anyone as rude as Michelle over the 3,800 kms that I have just traveled over the past few weeks....

Very disappointed, it was 38 degrees today, went there to have power, bought a powered site at 9:30 am, there was no one on the site but was told I could not have it until 1pm, ok came back at 1:30, a lady in a van stopped and told me there was a horse event on and all of these sites were booked.. I have stayed in many showgrounds for the last 12 months, turned out the power was so far away from my site my extension lead would not reach, they could have changed one person and mine would have fitted, the person was not there yet, so in 38 degrees I got my money back and had to swelter in the heat, I will never go back there again, very poorly handled. I was also told there were no sites available for Sat night, then whilst waiting heard her book...
