Azzurra Hyams Beach House — Hotel in Hyams Beach

We stayed with 2 adults and 2 young kids for 4 nights in December 2024 in Hyams Beach.

We have travelled all over the world in areas with lots of nature and animals around and stayed in high-priced accommodations to be as close as possible to the best spots.

For us paying nearly AUD 900 per night for an accommodation (which falls into the category 5* or luxury) means not only location, but also a five star level of all infrastructure.

This is what our host May - in our opinion - didn’t understand when discussing our complaints about a neat and clean environment. Instead of justifying herselves, it would have been right to take the customer's perspective for once. Instead, without knowing us, we are accused of having no experience of Australian customs. The opposite is the case.

Don’t expect a very neat and clean house - Cleanliness is only superficial - if you have a closer look it’s pretty dirty. Here are just some examples: the window frames, the rubber of the fridge, stopper in the sink to only mention a few which show how the house is kept cleaned. We have documented everything with pictures.

There are in general many spider webs, ants all around the house (which came not over night). Also around the dinner table.

Our host sent the cleaners back to clean the house, but it has not been cleaned and the dirt (especially in corners and hidden from first sight) was as it was before.

We were offered to look for a new flat in return for a refund. We briefly considered this, but the effort of a new search with two children in limited available area for the same day, including new formalities, correspondence, packing, unpacking etc. would easily have cost us one or two valuable holiday days, during which we would not have been able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

What is very clear is that the knowledge of construction works should’ve been transparently told before booking such an apartment. Hiding this is definitely not a nice move. From 9 o’clock in the morning throughout the day, different noisy building works have been performed, such like hammering drilling, sawing directly next to the living room and terrace. The drilling from the neighboring house, which caused vibration in the apartment went on during 12 and 1pm in a frequency of 30 times by 1-2 minutes one after another. It was unbearable and made it impossible for us to use the outside. It will at least probably go on for the next months. At this moment we would not recommend to book this house.

The house itself is ok. There is a space kitchen and it contains 3 bedrooms, 1 toilet, 1 bathroom without a toilet. For 6 people we think this might not be sufficient. The house itself is at some places pretty much worn. The garden is not taken care of and looks very unkempt. Just the balcony and the green in front of it are kept in a nice way. Our host made us sign a lot of documents before renting to treat the place clean (plus some 40% deposit) and therefore we were expecting in return a really nice and clean house. But what you find is different and does not reflect what it pretends.

This house is in our opinion not worth the price she is asking for. We give two stars, because the location and the view is really fantastic, but the state of cleanliness and tidiness and the behavior of the host May dealing with complaints and hiding construction works prior booking deserve not more.

One Star - Deeply Disappointing Stay

We stayed here in March 2025 and honestly, I'm still upset about the $1000+ AUD we spent per night (4 nights total). The whole family was looking forward to this trip.

Yes, the location is incredible - you can walk straight onto the beach, the ocean views are stunning, and the neighbors were friendly. That's what makes this review so hard to write.

But the house... where do I even start? It's old, which is fine, but the "renovations" look like they were done by someone who watched a YouTube tutorial once. The furniture is overused and falling apart (except the beds, those were actually okay). And the lighting - oh my god, the lighting - everything looks yellow and depressing after sunset. Like eating dinner in a 1970s hospital cafeteria.

Here's what really got me though: the place was DIRTY. Not just "missed a spot" dirty. I'm talking mystery stains on doors, in the bathroom, grimy kitchen counters, a fridge that made me gag when I wiped the top of it, and actual belongings from previous guests under the couch. Just look at the photos and judge if this looks like 1000+ AUD per night.

The only thing next level were the ants. Look, we've traveled Australia extensively - we know about the wildlife, we're cool the occasional Huntsmen. But one bedroom was literally crawling with ants. Through cracks in the walls, everywhere. No bug spray provided, nothing. I have video if anyone is interested.

Basic amenities? Forget it. This place feels like someone's investment property they've completely given up on.

When I messaged the owner about the cleanliness, she got very defensive and reluctantly sent cleaners. Get this - they showed up unannounced while we were out, let themselves in without permission, wiped the dusty fridge door ONCE (I uploaded a photo showing the single swipe mark through the dust), and then left. That's it. Nothing else was cleaned. Looking back, I actually have to laugh at the audacity.

Look - I hate leaving bad reviews, I really do. But at this price point? Come on. I will save my money next time and book literally any other house on this street. The beach is amazing - I will just access it from somewhere else.

This is a really beautiful area & house. We enjoyed some Covid respite with our 3 adult children for 4 days in early July However , being advertised as a luxury beach house , we would have expected to have at least comparable amenities to a good hotel- Coffee & tea( no pods for the advertised coffee maker), & sugar, We had to purchase tea towels & tissues & the dishwashing liquid & fire lighters were insufficient for our stay. In a luxury self catering facility one usually expects pepper & salt . On returning from our supermarket trip on day 1, we were disappointed to find laundry detergent was not provided.
