Disappointing from start to finish...

We originally paid a good rate for our room, given that we travelled over Easter, and therefore incurred a premium as all travelers do over this time.

Upon arrival we were offered a room overlooking the IGA carpark. We chose to pay for an upgrade, but the room was still disappointing...the minibar was empty, there was no room service, our AC unit leaked constantly, the couch was damp and smelled, we had to clean dishes in the bathroom, and the Wi-Fi is dismal.

Furthermore, the restaurant wasn't open in the evening, we were hurried out of the bar on the only afternoon we had a drink in the hotel, as the barmaid was going off her shift at 3.00pm.

At breakfast we were informed that coffee and tea wasn't included in the breakfast package that we paid for. We only ate breakfast at the hotel once, as the food was bad, the staff we rude, and we were surrounded by other diners who were understandably disgruntled and complaining.....Its an awful experience, and one I wished I'd never paid for, having now read earlier reviews from other unwitting holiday goers.

Customer service at Peppers Magnetic Island is almost non existent, and borderline rude. We called concierge to ask for a taxi to head to another restaurant, given that their own restaurant was closed. Just to be given a taxi number and told to call one ourselves....nice.

In 6 days our room was cleaned once, and the bathroom supplies replaced twice. Even though our booking clearly stated daily cleaning. We asked for cleaning at a later time on the 2nd from last day, to which the cleaner remarked "aren't you leaving tomorrow?" insinuating, what's the point?! Again, nice.

On our last morning we had to call reception for new soap and shampoo, along with milk as it hadn't been replaced. Just to be told that they had ran out of milk... we didn't even get a sorry.....and this was Easter weekend....not acceptable.

When asked by reception if we enjoyed our stay, we explained our experience as we have here, and the lady didn't even offer an apology....it was like she had heard it all before, and didn't want to get into it yet again.

This place is to be avoided. People deserve a much better service for their money. Sure COVID has disrupted stuff, but there is no excuse for poor service. Stop accepting bookings and money if you cant service your hotel and customers properly.

The massage place was also closed the entire time we...

Was looking forward to staying at the resort but was disappointed the minute we got there! Firstly the 3 storey resort only had an elevator that reached the second floor so you had to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the third floor where we were allocated. Not good for people with disabilities/ injured or had large luggage. Next we were told that they didn't offer daily room cleaning but due to staying a week we would have a mid-week service which would be removing trash, bed making and vacuum. Let me say that the service did not occur. Then we were informed that the restaurant only served breakfast which was another blow as we choose the resort due to their website advertizing they served breakfast AND dinner! We've been to Magnetic Island before and thought it would be easier to stay and have dinner at the resort but that plan went out the window! The reason is lack of workforce availability on the island which is a common theme for all business on the island! Please update your website so others are aware of the limited service you have on the resort! Room was less than average. Size was on the smaller side but we had a lovely with of the marina with a balcony. This is where it goes down, furniture was worn and either should have been refurbished or replaced. Bathroom sink had major cracks in the ceramic, paint was peeling off the ceiling and bathroom door was filthy with stains! Then we find out that our room didn't have a phone and it was a day after that we found out that the line to the room wasn't working and that we didn't need it anyway as we can just call them on our mobile! From my experience ALL islands have sketchy reception and depending on your network provider, you won't get reception or it's very minimal in certain areas. Magnetic Island is no different. I found that Telstra had better reception as I brought along my work phone which was on Telstra and my personal phone was on Vodafone and Vodafone did not work other than when I stayed at the resort. Overall was quite disappointed in our experience...

Now, you may think to yourself “...this is another disgruntled tourist” wanting a freebie for saying Peppers is by far the worst experience ever had, and you would be correct.

I organised time away from the hassle of repairing my flood stricken home and wanted to just forget about things for a night. Instead I got a rather rude receptionist on check in, the realisation that none of the niceties I suggested were even taken into consideration, and a room that was knowingly defective.

I ended up with a hotel room looking over the local IGA - not that there is anything wrong with that. I was also granted a room with a bed that was a death trap. The resort offers a king bed in their advertising but in fact it’s two singles put together. And that is no exaggeration. There was no attempt to try and make it more comfortable.

Don’t get me wrong, I can accept false advertising at the best of times, but this was down right insulting to my intelligence. You could feel the crease and I was told later laundry had not been delivered and housekeeping had knowing not reported the defects.

On top of the joined single mattresses, I also nearly injured myself when the bed gave way from under me. The bed did not have any support preventing it from sliding freely across the room. A definite health risk for someone my age. I was not impressed.

To their credit, the hotel staff admitted to being negligent and provided a different room for me. Needless to say, it was a fantastic room and no health risk.

As you can imagine, I was not impressed with the whole experience, especially when I compared the quality amenities in the new room with the lower standards in the old... e.g. a mix match of toiletries compared to the new room. I did not realise I was paying almost double the standard room rate for a defective room. Not happy! Peppers, your checkin staff let down the whole experience of the restaurant. The food was amazing and the staff could not assist me more....

We have stayed here before but the last trip was terrible. For over $400 per night I would expect better facilities and better attitude from staff. The room was terrible. Fridge was rusted to the point there was a hole in the door, the ice machine in the fridge was blocked completely and malfunctioning, the oven was missing controls, the knives should have been replaced years ago as they were falling apart or missing. As for the rest of the room, it hadn't been cleaned properly in years, and there was mould under the paint in some areas and growing in the A/C vents. The TVs are a combination of 5 different and old technologies. There were 4 remotes, cables lying around the TV, Ethernet terminals lying next to the TV and not fixed to the wall, the in room entertainment was frozen and would not work. We tried the breakfast twice during our stay, and the food was good on both occasions. Staff were slightly rude and didn't greet us at the entrance, instead choosing to yell out from behind their desk and asking for room numbers. During the first occasion we asked to join 2 tables as there were 6 of us. The staff wiped over a used table once with what I would describe as a very dirty rag. Restaurant floor was dirty, but it was from not being swept between sittings, which is understandable when staff are extremely busy. However, I wouldn't say this was the case on this day. The barrister was extremely busy and professional, top marks to that young guy for his efforts. Upon checking out, I tried to tell the front of house staff about the issues, and it was brushed off with "oh that's no good, we'll get onto the owners." Not so much as a sorry for your experience. Anyway, that's about as honest as I could get. Just a terrible experience. *****update***** I emailed the peppers team as requested to discuss the matter further. I didn't get a response. My review hasn't changed.

This is a really nice resort and a great place for a family holiday. Pools: The resort has 2 magnificent pools. The smaller one is well protected from wind and serves for a quieter moment, and the larger pool is massive, it’s really well designed with a shape that provides for various zones for swimming and family fun time at the waters edge. Only improvement I can suggest is to fix the few muddy spots on the grass but otherwise superb. Rooms: The rooms are like large apartments with lots of light and space. It has many things that anyone needs. Washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge, tv etc. They may not be the most luxuriously appointed, but they are nice. New and very clean it was an easy place to enjoy. Especially good for families with 2 and 3 bedrooms. Only improvement I could suggest is the main bed could be bigger- there was the space. Service and other: The service in the hotel was nice generally. Even though at capacity it did not seem overcrowded in the common areas. We had a serious problem with the lock on the door that was malfunctioning. It took 2 changes of this lock over 2 days which was not great, so they need to invest in better locks, but I can say that the staff in particular Steve knew how to address it, and appreciated the impact to the guests that a simple lock not working can have on a holiday. Steve is a great example of customer service, who needs to be recognised. Overall, this is a lovely resort in a great location. Right next to the ferry and marina, you can get boats to the remote beaches which we highly recommend and short trip to other beaches by road- cars, and busses etc easily accessible and you can also walk. The family all loved this relaxing holiday.

Lovely luxury stay in a great location. POOL: the pool is massive and one of the most beautiful however is very cold, if you don’t enjoy cold water you will be disappointed. It is very refreshing and lovely if you are hot, but unable to stay in for a long time. Lots of day beds and beautiful view of the harbour. No pool bar but can take own cans of drinks in pool area. Also has bbqs. BREAKFAST - breakfast is beautiful, anyone who says it is average needs their head read: fresh fruit, huge assortment of pastries/cakes/banana bread/muffins/crumpets/raisin toast, chia puddings, hot assortment - eggs, bacon, mushrooms, hash browns, pancakes, French toast,Asian food etc, cereals and charcuterie. Also amazing service and a view of the harbour. Paying for barista coffee the only downside. ROOM - comfy large room, big shower, comfy bed. Balcony and tea/coffee/fridge/microwave. LOCATION - great location for exploring the island either on foot or via bus/car, IGA over the road, ferry terminal next door. Restaurants and beaches within 5-15 min walk. There is also a restaurant- boardwalk on site for those wishing to have dinner. Secure underground car parking. Beautifully maintained gardens / resort grounds. Staff are lovely. Recommend 3 nights to see the whole island well and truly relax.
