How to start... Contemplation of food poisoning in exchange for a tasty meal seems like a better trade than the level of disappointment I had for how utterly prison-food-esque the chips were. Next time I want to spend money for a disappointing serving of fish I'll just go fishing and throw cash in the water.

It is never the customers obligation to take the time out of their day and fuel cost from their driving to return to an insultingly bad source of paid food to give them guidance on how to not serve insultingly bad food. The purpose of online reviews is to both risk bad reviews to take as guidance to improve from and hope for good reviews to congratulate good food and service. A business owner should be gracious in the event of either. I have visited this establishment multiple times over the years, and all times, it has been low quality for high prices. This time was just particularly poor.
And to attempt to make this personal? Little man, I have my name and face on my google account. You're the one commenting behind a faceless business page.
Perhaps you should wonder why a review is hard and have the graciousness to look at how you're providing services to your exorbitantly paying customers and think perhaps you need to pick up your game a little bit.
A comparative review to the fish and chip shop in Horseshoe: that used to be utterly terrible. Then Nate purchased it and now it's rather good. I've openly reviewed that I think it's a bit overpriced, but not so much so that it seems remotely insulting, and that the food is nice makes that reasonable.
The chicken salted chips were wet, sour, and not salted. The crumbed fish was so over cooked I built jaw muscle with how much I had to chew it.
These issues are not for your paying customer to go out of their way for your ego to tell you gently in person. Do better. Respect the paying customer and improve...
Read moreCame in for my birthday lunch with my missus. She had barramundi and chips, I had the let's get started platter (let's get decky or something I think it was called maybe).
They have a surprisingly large menu and the place is a nice place to sit. Staff were friendly and had a good atmosphere. The missus' barramundi was good, but the chips were s little lacklustre, seemed like they had been out for awhile as they weren't crispy, but it came in a dish with a great amount of tartar sauce (tartar sauce seemed like it might have been generic store stuff not house made but that's OK, it was fine).
My platter was had pros and cons. It was fantastic value and more food than I could eat (and I'm a big boy). The Spanish mackerel bites however were quite oily, which was surprising as nothing else on the plate was oily like them (and I don't mean the fish inside which was nice but the batter itself, upon picking it up the grease just was all over your hands, shame). The calamari was very good, perfectly cooked. The prawn skewers were fabulous, super tasty, and again superbly cooked. The best bit was rhe Moreton bay bugs, the garlic butter all over them was delightful and they came out their shells quite easily in one piece using a fork with the right technique. The prawns and Moreton bay bugs honestly were so good I would happily have swapped everything else on the platter for a few more of those, bloody fantastic!
Overall I would recommend eating here, just maybe don't bother with the chips or ask if they've just done a fresh batch maybe, I dunno, and skip the Spanish mackerel if you can, but the hot Moreton bay bugs and the prawn skewers get a massive thumbs up, as does the overall value of the place. Just be aware of you get barramundi that it's expensive because barramundi is expensive,...
Read moreI'm not one for negative reviews, unfortunately we've come away so sour, we couldn't let sleeping dogs lie. We ordered take away and we really struggle to understand the high rating of SOS. We had our order given to someone else after the wrong name was called. Rather than rescheduling the food in progress to push us through, the team decided to recook everything. 45 minutes after the order we finally got our food. To add to the misery, the seafood didn't seem fresh - that is the oysters, calamari, prawns and fish. Scallops were ok, but were verging on cold. The garlic prawns had 4 whole cloves in the meal (not crushed/cut), something we see as lazy as prepping garlic is a standard activity. Additionally the rice was undercooked and the food luke warm. We also found that our hot food was placed on top of our natural oysters, a beckoning for food poisoning - food safety needs to be on top of this. We understand that we're getting fish and chips on the island and there is 'island tax' but when we're being charged ~$600 for 14 people ($42pp). We're expecting amazing results, especially when we're getting better seafood at the Arcadia hotel for 1/2 the price.
SOS needs to step up, we are tourists so aren't returning customers. This might be a one off, but for the price this experience just can't happen. Expectations are high in this price bracket and we felt thoroughly disappointed from our experience. If this isn't a one off, we hope this is a warning to...
