We had been going for years, this year was our 7th year and most likely not be going back. We've seen the change since new management came in, Jasmine the Manager isn't very friendly at all and the caretaker taht uses his dog and swearing at kids when their on school holidays having fun isn't a huge fan of many. The prices have gone up so much and you get less, we stay in a cabin and last year we had thise small milk cartons in the fridge and plenty of coffee and tea, plus sugar. This year no milk, enough coffee, tea and sugar for 4 nights we had planned to stay for 14 but ended up leaving earlier due to the poor customer service no longer having much to do there like they use to before. The range hood had oil drips on it, cook top was dirty, we have 1 roll of paper for 6 people for 14 days, they only allow you to change your towels and sheets on day 5 🤮, tv had 4 channels and when we wanted to use the main TV room to watch the tennis we had to leave as they close it at 9pm, lucky our last night there was a different care taker and he allowed us to stay and watch one game. on our 3rd night we allowed our kids to go play at night with all the kids at the park, which is what they do and look forward to every January but this time they were threaten, sworn at and chased by big tough caretaker with his husky dog, kids came running in telling us what had happened and police was also called in by someone but when the kids saw the police the officer said that it was OK, to keep playing just not too loud which was understandable. Next day I go to the office to book in the tennis courts and Jasmine started questioning me is my kids were out, I said yes mine and nother 50 plus kids having fun playing, she said that I had to keep my kids in as they were causing trouble in the park. I said what trouble? she said just trouble and to keep them inside soon as it got dark in which isa I said no, I didn't pay over $3,000 to keep my kids indoor during our holidays and they were having fun with other kids until that guy came and started yelling at them, swearing and chasing them. I then left the office, 10 minutes later Jasmine comes knocking at my cabin now saying that she had just had more reports 🥴 like in the last 10 minutes that my kids have all been seen causing drama and rouble in the park for the last 2 nights, I said well that funny because they have only been allowed at night for the first time last night and it wasn't just my kids, there were alot more with them playing, she asked me to give up the other kids name, who I've know for years and I said no, I'm not going to dob on kids having fun and not doing harm. she then said that if I didn't keep my kids in at night that I would be kicked out with no refund and we'd be ban from coming back. I said ok but how about I now complain about the state of the cabin when we walked in, it stunk, 1 toilet paper for 6 people, dirty kitchen, ants, bed bugs, the pool was disgusting, we have videos of their pool as my son decided to have fun with his new goggles and attach his go pro only to find how disgusting that pool ground is, an entire park peoole pay thousands and limited BBQ because some have not been repaired yet, they took away the little convenience store when covid hit and never to return, the takeaway also left. They now how less overheads, less staff, and the place is falling apart but do you see me complaining and wanting a refund? and I also told her that if I saw that caretaker I'd be talking to him myself, she then said no, you go near my staff and you are out. later that day we found out it had happened to a few more people. This year lots when home early due to poor management and sadly none will...
Read moreWe booked 6 nights in a Beachcomber Villa. We landed in villa 1 which was the furthest back so the views were no way near what they’d be in villa 3 or 4. If you specifically want that view from the photos, request those ones. The villa was well proportioned for our little family of 4. The kids bedroom gets very warm and the fan is not great but the rest of the villa was well ventilated and breezy thanks to the elevation of the villa itself. The deck was lovely to sit and have meals. We didn’t eat indoors at all. There was a card that said our villa was cleaned by 3 people….it wasn’t the best with dirty bin lid, messy cupboards and some kind of caked stain in the kids bedsheet but we put that down to busy Jan season. Having shaded parking under the villa was a huge plus however a downside is the noisy road out back. The early risers of 5am onwards in cars is loud in the bedrooms. Our kids get up early so not much of an impact but if you like a lie in it could be an issue. The park had great facilities, the kids club, splash park and tennis court are great. I love the additions of a pizza night, fairy floss and doughnut vans visiting.
The pool is advertised as heated. Apparently it used to be but 2yrs ago the heating broke and it’s very expensive to fix! We were lucky and visited in good weather but I’d be disappointed if I thought I was getting a heated pool in sub par weather and ended up with that. Also, the advertised on-site cafe isn’t open and hasn’t been for some time. Not an issue for us and you can walk down the hill and grab a coffee from the van there most of the day. It’s good coffee too.
We’d stay again but I’d look at one of the clifftop cabins with guaranteed good views and...
Read moreWe have a long history with Short Point. I first stayed there in a huge tent with family in January 1968 and, for the next 9 years, we were there. We've been to Merimbula intermittently ever since but graduated to holiday lets. The NRMA park and, specifically, the Beach House, featured on a TV show earlier this year so we booked it for 4 nights and then built a 20-day trip around those dates to include Lakes Entrance, Tathra (another NRMA Beach house), Canberra city, Jamala Wildlife Lodge, Batemans Bay, Merimbula and Paynesville.|Whereas there are several Beach Houses at NRMA Tathra, there is only one at the NRMA park at Merimbula. It's in a prime position, closest to the beach, with an uninterrupted view along the beach to the Tura headland. However, it's also closest to the road and can be quite noisy. The traffic down to the beach car park starts at around 5.30am and is pretty constant from then until well after dark. We sort of got used to it but couldn't work out what the big attraction was unless the coffee truck at the car park has the best coffee on the Sapphire Coast. The Beach House is also closest to the other park, Beach Cabins Merimbula and both parks seemed to do daily whipper snippering and leaf blowing.|The Beach House is quite comfortable, clean and well appointed. It has 3 TVs but, oddly, 2 very small ones are housed in the wardrobes of bedrooms so you open the wardrobe door and and watch TV from the bed. We took a walk around the park to look at the range of accommodation options and those on the clifftop seemed to be the quietest and most private (including The Escape and The Point).|During our stay, we ate at Wheelers (Pambula), Bar Monti and Tidal (reviewed...
