Mum and I travelled by train from Cairns (12 hour trip) and we were transferred from Prosperine to Airlie Beach at 7pm. We made sure our travel agent contacted the Airlie Beach accommodation stating we were travelling via train and will be late arrivals. Our accommodation had check in closing at 5pm...what the heck? We called the "past 5pm late check in number" and after many attempts of calling the after hours number and receiving no response, it was getting late. My elderly mum was tired and she ended up calling the motel at 8pm for a room, it was a king bed and the owner said it was the last room and he had a guy, literally in front home him, wanting the room in front of him. Luckily our credit card got though and we secured the room. By the time we got to the motel from Airlie Beach it was 9pm and we were so buggered. And the rate was affordable, service was excellent and our trip to Whitsundays ended up being enjoyable. Yes, the rooms are basic but they clean and functional and it's obvious the motel was undergoing renovations. But my gosh, the service and friendliness trumps any expensive resort style accommodation at Airlie Beach. Kate and her mum was really friendly and Kate's husband went out of his way to drive to the airport and pick me up after dropped off the...

Read moreMyself and younger brother were heading up to the Cape and decided to take a break from driving. As we were ready to leave for our next stop , my brother's 4wd ignition decided to die and break it couldn't be started. We managed to get his 4wd off the street and into the council motorhome and caravan stop over . I walked to the council and explained to them of our predicament until we could get the parts from Brisbane but with Covid lockdown made it harder . At first the council was ok , the next thing I got a call saying that we were allowed to stay there . So we hired a tilt tray and I towed his boat to the lodge and stayed for 2 weeks. The management were very helpful and understanding to our needs . We would definitely stay again and l highly recommend the hotel is 1 of...
