For a seaside escape that is only 2.5 hours from the Sydney CBD, we recommend a visit to Bangalay Luxury Villas. Here you will find this an absolutely stunning location, amongst the backdrop of the Shoalhaven Heads beach, golf course and national park. It has a laid back and comfortable vibe, where you feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We meet Michelle, owner and concept creator of Bangalay who explains how Bangalay came to fruition. Her idea was to emit the idea of a nostalgic beach holiday to customers, showcasing the Shoalhaven region just as she did as a child. This she and her husband did, the site purchased right on the beach with the property’s back gate opening out into the Bangalay Sandforest where you see an area rich in plant life including eucalypt, banksia, lily pili and other Australian natives. Follow the decking straight out to Seven Mile Beach and take a walk, chat with the friendly locals and their pups, and even see horses galloping on the sands.
The site is comprised of 16 luxury villas, all connected by wooden boardwalk decking, flanked by beautiful native plants, re-vegetated on site. There are 1 or 2 Bedroom villas with either a garden or golf course view, as well as a 4BDR holiday house.
We stayed in a 1 Bedroom golf course view villa which was a well-appointed room that felt like our own little retreat. As you open the door to your villa via the electronic touch pad, you find yourselves in a light filled apartment that is tastefully styled. Michelle, with a background in interior design has certainly nailed the décor in fitting with their concept, every detail has been carefully considered. An interior styling featuring cane tables, wooden baskets and wooden floors, the aesthetics are reflective of the surrounding nature.
The spacious villas have all the comforts of home, so you really escape and have everything you need on site. Large bedrooms with wardrobes and drawer space, air con and ceiling fans and charging stations. The combined lounge and dining has a comfortable couch, coffee table complete with reading material on what to do in the local area, provided by Shoalhaven tourism. We love that the artwork carries the theme of native greenery into the villa with banksia artworks adorning the walls. There’s a fireplace and reading lamp so you can relax in here for hours. The bathroom has a fountain head shower, luxury aspar products and they can re-supply your towels daily, or for the ecofriendly folk, place your towel back up on the hook. If you’re here for a longer stay, you may like to make use of the laundry washing machine/dryer, iron, ironing board and vacuum in each villa. The villa is self-contained and the kitchen has a stovetop, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee pod machine. There is also free wi-fi in the villa and throughout the property.
We like that they have made it eco-friendly, with biodegradable coffee pods, electric charging points for cars, use of bicycles on site and the restaurant does not use plastic straws. There is a stunning pool with lounges to relax. The site is accessible to all as the villas and restaurant are all on ground level. Suitable for families, the property has cots for use, high chairs in the restaurants and a kid friendly menu.
They have a fine dining restaurant on site that offers tasting menus, ala carte, as well as breakfasts created by Head Chef Brent Strong, whose focus is on showcasing the beautiful natural ingredients of the...
Read moreThis destination will exceed your expectations! The rooms were lovely, light filled and spacious. The service we received from the moment of arrival with Ruby to the time of departure with Amanda was beyond the level of any other place I’ve stayed. There was a slight problem due to the heating not working in the pool at the time, however their level of professionalism and care around it was unbelievable. They definitely hold their guests with the utmost respect and made sure that we felt heard and validated. They were extremely generous in their efforts, making sure we didn’t leave feeling disappointed. Special thanks to Amanda for all that she provided! The dining experience was lovely. Jacquie was incredible, and went above to make sure that we had an enjoyable time. Bonus, she’s great with bubbas! Dinner and breakfast were delicious and they modified what they could to meet my intolerances. The overall ambiance in the restaurant was sleek, romantic. We enjoyed a couples yoga session in our villa, our teacher Gloria was honestly glorious! She was so in tune with us and what we needed from the session. We didn’t feel that she was delivering a cookie cutter program, that she’d just done earlier that day, rather it was unique to us! She was so gentle and you can tell she just really loves what she does. I was then treated to a massage with Summer, who was so focused on making sure I just relaxed, let go of the stress and allowed myself to receive and she really provided that space! I cannot fault our stay. The team at Bangalay are really doing their best to create something that’s not provided anywhere else and you do feel that energy. Thank you for such a comfortable break away. No doubt we...
Read moreSet right on the tee, villa 8 at Bangalay Luxury Villas gives you a chance to get acquainted with Shoalhaven Heads golfers over your morning Will & Co coffee. The golfers are a friendly bunch, keen to chat while a mob of black cockatoos screech prehistoric cries overhead. The coffee is made well in the neighbouring Bangalay Dining who handle your villa’s breakfast for two.
Kicking off with bowls of seasonal fresh fruit and Wild One Organics juices, the included breakfast allows you to select an a la carte item from a short list of five options. We both went for the Bangalay bacon and egg roll that presented a generous amount of porky bacon on a slightly stiff bun with a runny egg and barbecue sauce that was slightly too sweet for me. We consumed it to a consistent 80s-90s soundtrack of The Cure, Dire Straits and Huey Lewis and the News. Too full to eat the final element, a Sonoma pastry, we had a tangy rhubarb danish packaged up for our drive back to Sydney at the suggestion of friendly staff.
The villa itself is accessed through a series of boardwalks that get a little slippery in all this rain. The surrounding landscaping however is so vividly green and lush as a result of the frequent downpours, it’s hard to be mad. Plus it gives you a perfect excuse to bunker down with Netflix, a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, two bags of artisan sweets, and chill. We braved the rain for a swim in the uniquely shaped aquamarine heated pool, and was very glad we did. My package, which included a tasting menu dinner for two and breakfast in the restaurant plus overnight accommodation set me back $720. Feeling relaxed as I drove back to Sydney after a one-night break made it...
