After realising this place wanted $180 per night for a powered caravan site for the April school holidays (2 young grand kids with us for a week) we cancelled our booking and sought a refund for our deposit. We could not believe in all conscience they could charge this much, but wait, it got worse. When we fronted up for our refund I asked if they had any availability for next xmas. They informed us they only had vacancies from the 3rd Jan 2024 but we needed to stay for a minimum of 7 days. After cautiously asking the cost, the lady behind the counter said "Hold onto your hats, $1722 for 7 nights" That is $246 per night just for a powered caravan site!!!! We could not believe how they could justify what we could only believe was blatant price gouging. Are they preying on the very limited availability of caravan sites and blatantly ripping off caravanners? If so, this in our experience is a new industry low and hopefully the caravan industry and it's members will react accordingly. We actually scored an ideal site in the caravan park down the road for $60 per night for the April school holidays. Please, any caravan park managers, don't prey on customers. We will not ever be patronising any Big4 parks again.
Clarification re owners response: We did inspect the park before we booked. We only booked because we were concerned that with BIG4 charging those prices, there must be no other other vacancies in nearby parks. Next day we again drove to the Tweed and soon found other parks with vacancies and ended up booking a beautiful site across the road from the river for $60 per night. This site is close to shops and other amenities. We were also annoyed BIG4 refused to refund our deposit until the 17th of the month (as we were informed that is their policy) so we drove there once again last Friday and supplied our bank card to enable our refund. We personally feel that no matter what attractions they claim to have in the park, there is no justification to charge such high rates for a basic powered caravan site and it remains to be seen if other...
Read moreIncredible BIG4. We've stayed in quite a few between Tweed and Cairns and this one is the best.
While it doesn't have the monstrous theme park size water park, it has a bigger variation of activities available.
To my surprise, my kids spent more time enjoying the billabong than they did on the slides.
You can go fishing (yes people did actually catch one occasionally), Kayaking, Paddle boarding, Pedal Go Karting.
There is a small basketball court, lawn chess, soccer goals and other activities.
The pool is lovely and they host movie nights on the big screen.
The staff are possibly the most pleasant I have ever experienced.
There is a little coffee stall that opens up daily, I want to give a mention to the woman who runs it.... She was so lovely.
Her teenage daughter (her sidekick helper on Hot Dog night) and was equally as wonderful.
We have the 8x8 site right in the Billabong, the most generous site I've ever booked.
The BIG4 Tweed is 6 mins from your local Coles, Woolworths and Kmart if you need anything.
There is no restaurant on site for dinner at night, only food vans on the weekends. The camp kitchen is nicer than what most people have in their homes, it was never too crowded.
We had Uber Eats one night and just met them at the gate, easy peasy 👌
The only thing I would mention is that if you are a really light sleeper, the traffic noise MAY keep you up. I wouldn't worry if you have a cabin, but it's definitely noticeable in a tent on the billabong side.
It didn't bother us as after such big days, we were...

I was not a big fan of the Billabong, but that's just me. The Waterslides were good, however the photos on the website made them look bigger than they were-it only took 5 seconds from the top to the bottom on the biggest slide. Bigger and better slides would be beneficial and there is certainly the room for them. The cabin we stayed in, a Matilda "large" was a misnomer. I was told this was the largest cabin they had. Wow. For some reason, someone thought it would be a good idea to put the air conditioner facing toward the door outside, instead of in toward the cabin itself-what? In addition to this problem, where they had placed the air conditioner unit outside obstructed our ability to park the car properly. My two kids and my niece could not sleep in the second bedroom as the air was stifling-they were sweating and could not get to sleep. The pitiful fan in this bedroom did nothing but blow hot air around the room. We had to put the mattresses on the floor of the lounge room so we could sleep. Same problem in the main bedroom. What about ducted air con? Someone had not cleaned the cabin very well-lolly wrappers found under the mattresses and dirty hand marks on the walls. For what i paid (and it was not cheap) i don't believe i got value for money. We won't be going back...
