This was and remains Hundertwasser's largest project. Although he died in 2000, the work continues on what is an extraordinary creation is any sense. In keeping with Hundertwasser's vision, this place is totally organic and grows into and out of the landscape of which it is a part. The complex is huge, multi-levelled and meandering, and the connecting passage ways, where there is no such thing as a flat surface, meander like rivers, connecting the whole but also providing vistas and places to relax. One almost expects water to be flowing in every direction as the passage ways remind on variously of a forest floor and stream bed. Since it operates as a spa, using geothermal water in what remains a volcanic area, deep underground, the options for various treatments are many although there is pool access as well for those content to do their own thing. We thought it interesting that with such a huge capacity, where there is never an "off season" - it is popular year round - although the clientele remains mostly Austrian. There is a long tradition there and here, of spa treatments as a means to relieve the tensions of work and life. We learned that Austrians tend in general to take short breaks rather than long ones and such facilities provide the perfect outlet in a totally self-contained setting with multiple options and choices. When we were there, some 470 guests were in residence and there was a large wedding party in place as well since this is a wedding paradise.||||Design-wise and architecturally, this is the embodiment of Hundertwasser, whom I knew from 1973, on a massive scale and yet, because much is underground or with trees and meadows on the roofs and much landscaping all about, as well as the natural forest, the scale is hard to see because there is a meandering intimacy. We absolutely loved this place and can see why it is so popular. Even though it might be off the usual itinerary for international visitors, for anybody wanting a break within the context of a major artwork, this is the place!||||Service is impeccable and the food options simply incredible, including vegan and vegetarian as well as being highly organic. There are many restaurant options as well as bars and other places for meetings and relaxing. Another interesting thing is that there are many places to be alone as well, if that is what one seeks. The rooms are varied, full of Hundertwasser's preference for tiling à la Mondriaan, and there are even underground apartments and so, there is also a cave-like dimension. So choice is probably the greatest we have ever seen in any hotel or resort complex, worldwide. The other part of Hundertwasser's vision is recycling. The director explained that even the furniture is recycled and varied, although integrated with matching covers. This really is a true testament to Hundertwasser's entire vision as an artist, designer and environmentalist. He hated straight lines and there are over 4000 different windows, all, however, creating a whole and a very unique identity. Really, the only straight lines appear in things like some windows. ||||Another detail too is that because of the scale, just moving around and going to and from one's room, we were doing at least 3.5 km a day for that alone, so effectively, you walk everywhere as part of an automatic fitness regime!...

Read moreThis spa hotel is our top favourite of all we have ever tried. It is perfect in every way you can think of and no detail is left to chance. The team is so dedicated to make you feel welcome and to do absolutely everything they can for you and then some more - this kind of personal, kind, attentive service without being overbearing, servile or sticky is actually a particular form of hospitality that is really really hard to find. So when you find it you must treasure it and support it - this is why we come to Rogner Bad Blumau time and again - with our family and also without our kids at times. |Some of our kids already come with their own partners now by themselves as they have experienced this place's unique charm and hospitality from when they were really young and have at all stages in their lives felt welcome and cherished as guests.||The spa itself is gorgeous, there is always something fun and beautiful and colourful to look it - it really is like no other place and it is entirely true when one of their slogans calls the hotel and spa a work of art to walk inside - it really is just that.||The spa facilities are fantastic and I am not sure what else one could possibly desire as all your needs and wishes are taken care of.||There is also a generosity of hospitality in everything - plenty of towels available at no extra charge, fresh dressing gowns if yours gets too wet, baskets of apples to just take one if you feel like munching on a tasty styrian treat, water with lovely herbs or fruit in the entrance hall, welcome drinks and little good bye treats, water in your room, etc etc etc|Everything is just there for you and nobody demands extra payment for things like towels etc - that's so nice and makes you feel cherished, not robbed (like other places).||Last but not least the FOOD: Unbelieveably nice, freshly prepared and wholesome, locally sourced wherever possible - there is a huge emphasis on organic/local/fresh/from small producers etc. and it pays dividends - the food is simply amazing and how this place does not already have a michelin star is beyond me - they sure deserve it!!! We had a "Kalbstafelspitz" with polenta on one of our evenings and it was A-MA-ZING!!!! Juicy and tender and so so lovely!!! When I asked for the chef the next morning she was so friendly and kind and explained to me how they get such an amazing result and she was so modest with it - I could not thank her enough, honestly! Right up there with the best meals I have ever had in top restaurants!|Also: do not miss the breakfast buffet - its fabulous and there is so much choice you need to stay a few nights just so you can try it all.||Do yourself a favour and visit this place - you will most definitely NOT regret coming!||Biiiiiiiggggg thank you to the entire Team at ROGNER BAD BLUMAU! WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!! Our visits to Austria are not complete without a few nights at your hotel!!! THANKS FOR THE AMAZING MEMORIES OVER...
