Let’s begin a couple of days before our arrival date. We received what|came across as a nasty e-mail from the hotel telling us to contact Tui who|would help us book another hotel. The reason for this, I contacted the hotel|to ask them not to prepare meat for me for the evening meal, explaining I|do not eat meat, but do eat fish. Due to flight time, it would be around 9.00|in the evening when we arrived, and I did not want food to be wasted.||Tui sorted this out, my main course was meat free.||I did receive an apology from Regina the next day, and on the very few|days that there was only meat for the main course choice, I got either fish|or vegetarian.||The hotel does, and I was aware of this, state they do not cater for|vegetarians or vegans, but having adjusted over the years, since a child,|when meat was on the plate with every meal I got, and there are many|years, I learned just to ask not to put meat on my plate, and have managed|with just vegetables, after all it really is just another food item on the plate,|and plenty of people ask to have certain vegetables omitted from their,|plate, or just leave them untouched. ||It is possible that the hotel had, had issues with these new style vegetarians and vegans, who do not even understand what vegetarians or vegans are, and are just demanding picky eaters.||I knew I would not starve, as there was plenty of food, previous reports.||To put some perspective on meals served at the hotel. ||Breakfast cold buffet, there are far more items to choose from that have no meat, toasting bread, bread buns, sliced bread, cereal, yogurt, fruit tinned, apples, 2 types of cheese, and then lastly only 2 types of ham, so not exactly a meaty|breakfast. Your hot drinks are from a machine.||Evening meal the starter 6 days a week soup, and no meat. The other|day, it was melon with a slice of ham on the plate. Salad served a few times|a week, self service, more than enough choice to make it a main course,|again not a piece of meat in sight, then the main course, while there is a|choice of 2 main courses, there were only about 3 times in the week when|both choices were meat.||With the exception of a Saturday, you choose your evening meal at|breakfast, due to a change in the weather, it got really hot, I choose not to|have soup this is a choice, same as choosing not to have the dessert, I|mention this because some previous posts say there was not much food,|for me there was more than enough, even if the hotel had not prepared a|vegetarian/fish option for me, which I was grateful for, I felt that there was a|good size helpings.||On the couple of days I had soup, when the weather was not good, this was a meal in itself. Some guests commented if they were at home, then the soup|would be their only meal.||I have no idea why the hotel, just does not add a vegetarian dish for the|main course, along with a choice of meat or fish, for the other choice. On|the days there was a vegetarian option plenty people choice this option,|the hotel is very much providing meals without meat, fish already.||If you stay for more than a week then the menu is pretty much repeated the|same each day of the week.||You choose your evening meal at breakfast, so option to let hotel know if|you will not be eating at hotel.||Drinks are 5 euros glass of wine, bottle of water and draught beer same,|bill needs to be settled each evening, good thing easier to keep track of|spend, less chance of mistakes being made, I much prefer this method.||Hotel has small bar area, shuts around 22.30, opens about 16.30.|No service after breakfast finishes around 9.30, no lunch provided.||Rooms are cleaned daily with the exception of Sunday when no cleaning is|done. Bedding and towels changed twice weekly, do not expect daily|changes. Complementary soap, small shower gel on arrival (if you do not|bring your own toiletries N Preis and Spar all within easy walking|distance of the hotel).||Room is basic, no fridge, kettle, or air conditioning, had a good enough|sized balcony, and a divider between ours and the next room balcony. Safe|in room is free, keypad, good size, fitted my handbag. TV, only one English|channel Sky News. Hairdryer in bathroom fixed to wall, shower. Beds are|typical 2 singles together, separate duvets, which is what you get in|German as well for accommodation of this type.||No swimming pool. Parking at hotel, outside seating tables and chairs.|Most guests arrive and leave on Saturday , including self drive, mainly|Dutch guests, who far out numbered English, there were also some|Germans, which the English outnumbered.||The hotel is located off the busy main road that runs through the village, no|entertainment at hotel, noise comes from other guests, and road. The hotel|has apartments next door, guests eat in the hotel, in case you wonder|where all the people are coming from.||Hotel Hannes family is related to the smaller hotel on the main road hotel|Enzian family.||The standard of service dropped towards the end of the stay, in the|restaurant, there were no more guests in at the time, with the meals taking|longer to be served, and a disappearing act by the staff, although Hannes|was seen outside with the Tui rep on a few occasions. For example it was|nearly 35 minutes for dessert to show up, which was just a scoop of ice|cream, another guest timed it.||Regina is around at breakfast to greet you, in the evening it is usually just|Hannes, who appears to be in charge, and his brother Michael, sometimes|Regina was there. Perhaps next year the Tui rep will be part of the family.||For Tui guests the rep was housed at the hotel, but to be honest I can see|no reason for Tui to have a rep in the resort. Would rather see a reduction|in the holiday cost than having a rep put up at the hotel, covering this and|the Hotel Enzian, especially as hotels are small and not full of Tui guests.||Trips can be booked before departure on the TUI AP, or while there on the|AP (2 couples booked a trip with the rep, paid for it, only for it to be|cancelled).||A welcome meeting was held, on Sunday at 10.00, not at the hotel. I have|no idea why we needed to go to the Hex restaurant for this, and it could|not have been held at the hotel after breakfast finished.||There was no TUI information book, at the hotel, or departure times on the|noticeboard. The rep did post her times she was there, but this was often|changed, or she was not there at the times stated. On a few mornings|when she was supposed to be there, on duty, she was sat eating her|breakfast, so not a sign of being approachable. Again I am not sure why|the need for a rep.||Wildschonau card changes next year, the hotel is only signing up for the|basic card, so the cable car will not be included, and you cannot pay to|upgrade yourself, tourist office said it was 4 euros a night, or 28 euros a|week the hotel gets charged per person. Will need to check the|Wildschonau card website for what is included in 2025, and which hotels|have signed up for the premium card, to avoid disappointment. Maybe no rep could pay for the Premium Card, may not be practical as not everyone is a Tui guest.||Nice clean hotel, could also meet the Tui small and friendly, it comes under|Lakes and Mountains, well located in a village for supermarkets, bus, every|hour, cable car, lots of walking paths, away from noise of other hotels who|have later bar at midnight, or have live music inside and outside.||The charm of the hotel is it is typically Austrian type accommodation,|hoping that the owners do not overstretch themselves, by trying to|accommodate guests in their new apartments on half board within the main|hotel, causing guests to eat their meals in the reception, which happened|towards the end of our stay.||The hotel is cash only, which is pretty much normal here, across the|Wildschonau lots of places have signs saying cash only, so be prepared for|this. ||The hotel has WIFI, only really in the reception area. ||The tourist office is about a 30 minute walk away, and during summer there are free events, check the website, adding to that the word of mouth from other guests at|hotel, or people you meet out and about, so why have a Tui rep, as tours|booked via the Ap?||Remember Pensions in Austria are very different to hotels, especially when|small and family owned.||If this is your type of thing, quiet, small, basic, convenient, in wonderful setting, then...
Read moreAbsolutely outstanding! Nothing was any trouble for this family run hotel...we stayed over christmas and they are totally client focused...they always went out of their way to help and make your stay the best. As for previous negative comments regarding table arrangements you are allocated a table according to your room number and eat in that location all week, this is how they organise the dining area and it is similar in other hotels in this area where we have stayed before; having been in the hotel when this conflict occurred, the attitude of the guests was not conducive to a successful resolution as they were not open to any of the offers the hotelier made to resolve their issues and they just wanted to be moved to a bigger hotel which they got in the end. At the Hannes all the family and staff are naturally friendly and attentive, the set meals are delicious, home cooked with great choices and portions and the breakfast buffet was great too, varied and plentiful; knowing you have a guaranteed seat to eat at each meal time is a bonus and something bigger hotels dont always offer so it can be a fight to find a table...but not at the Hannes. Skiing was very good and the button lift or gondola right across the road to access the slopes...we skied back down to the hotel...also with the ski bus stopping very close you are ideally placed for hitting the slopes in Alpbach. The rooms are nice and clean and fresh, bigger than in some resorts with a full size tv and powerfull shower...we had a lovely room facing the mountains. There is a sauna area which is modern and a good place to unwind after a hard days skiing and a ski room and boot room mean all your storage needs are catered for too. All in all a brilliant week of skiing made even better with a fantastic hotel...thankyou to Hannes and Michael and mum and dad who made our stay with their warm welcome and hospitality. 😍I cannot recommend this hotel enough. You will not be disappointed if you stay here 😍 The Dickinson Family stayed...
Read moreAlthough Hannes with hard working Victoria were excellent hosts our holiday was somewhat marred by the extensive building work literally 10 metres from the front door whilst the local Spar was being demolished. We were not informed by TUI beforehand and they have absolved any responsibility for the disruption we experienced. The extensive work is still ongoing at the time of writing.|Onto the hotel itself. The rooms and hotel was spotlessly clean. The buffet breakfast offered a decent choice each day. The meal in the evening started at 6.30pm prompt. The food was ok, with 2 choices offered completed each morning at breakfast time. The bar was closed each night except for one evening where Hannes hosted a quiz.|Hannes as already mentioned is an excellent host, has a great sense of humour and the 3 out 5 mark would have been lower owing to the building work if it wasn't for him and his staff and the general feel of the hotel itself. |Niederau is a very quiet resort with hardly any nightlife. If you like peace and quiet, lovely walks in gorgeous surroundings then this is the place for you.|Once the building work next to the hotel is complete I'm sure the holiday experience will...
