Stayed here as part of a school's skiing trip. The accommodation is very basic, but very clean and well kept - everything you need for a travelling school party. ||The location is amazing - looking out over the huge lake with views of the mountains in the background. The hotel has very good facilities, including big communal rooms with TVs and access to an athletics track, grass football pitches, hard court football pitch, basketball court and beach volleyball court. The hotel also has heated boot and ski room. ||The food is OK - evening meals usually consist of salad, soup and a main meal. Dessert is often disappointing and something like fruit. Breakfast is a plentiful continental selection and is self-service. ||One major downside is the abrupt staff, who take exception to anyone leaving food on their plate and their inability to communicate effectively, causing unnecessary upheaval on the last day. As it was end of season, we were told we would not have to vacate our rooms early on the day of departure, however we were then told on the morning of departure that we would in fact have to vacate our rooms. This was not ideal, as this had not been planned and caused huge disruption to our travelling school party. ||All in all, this is a great little base for skiing Zell am See and Kaprun for...
Read moreIt was my 4th stay this year, and it always felt like coming back to my 2nd home into that hostel.||||Situated in south of the lake, it would take 10-15 minutes walking from the train station/town center, thus if you carry heavy luggage a taxi would be a good idea. Otherwise walk your way beside the lake and enjoy the wonderful scenery.||The hostel was always very clean, with polite; friendly and welcoming staff. ||Usually you might encounter a school group, but all-age visitors are possibility as well.||||The twin-bed room is basic, with a quite hard mattress and a very clean bathroom. Window view is very beautiful, whether your room faced the lake or south with view over the far mountains.||Breakfast was plenty, the usual basic hostels standard.||Be advised there is no wifi in the rooms.||||What makes this hostel stand out for me is the backyard area: relax beside the lake and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery early in the morning, or late afternoon.||||Outstanding value for the money, for those who would like...
Read moreThis Youth Hostel is one of my favourite ones yet! The rooms are pretty nice, the food is delicious and the chef is very friendly and fun. There is a soccer field, a basketball court, an athletics field, a beach volleyball field - all of the above is included in the price for the room. There is direct access to Zeller lake and SUPs and canoes can be borrowed for free. There is also the possibility to rent a boat or learn how to wind surf. The staff is very friendly and chill. Within 20 minutes, one can walk to the train station. Very close nearby there are also great opportunities to go for hikes. The city center of Zell am See can be reached within approximately 30 minutes by foot. If you are looking for a cheap option to enjoy some time at a lake and are into sports, I definitely...
