It's a disaster. The food quality - when compared to the prices the restaurant charges - is abysmal. The service speaks almost no German (which, for a restaurant in Austria, is criminal), English only through pantomime... but appears to be fluent in Arabic and Farsi.
Conclusion (western clientele): avoid like the plague.
ADDED TO REVIEW AFTER READING THE RESTAURANT'S REPLY:
Dear Shiraz Management,
if I had a plan to spread hatred, then I would have written a review without actually setting a foot into your place. However, since you apparenrly insist on claiming that this is just a malicious slander and that your service was according to standards, let us review the facts, shall we?
You charge around 30€ per main course. This, in itself, is a high price but might be explained by absolutely superb food or some other qualities which would normally be included in the overall experience of the restaurant. More on that in the points below:
Food quality: while one cannot say that the food per se is bad... it is essentially street food, without any finesse or anything special which would justify the prices which are at a level of high-range restaurants. Plus, the amount of actual meat in a serving is - again, for the price - under all levels. For comparison, you can get a better Persian menu at any small niche-in-the-wall Asian take-out in Augsburg or other cities in Germany.
The ambient is a big part of restaurant experience. Stuffy indoors or plastic chairs outdoors (practically in the street) does not count as an ambient which would justify the price of a meal which you require.
The customer is not even offered an option to pay with a credit card: rather, as a customer you get presented a receipt stating you will be paying cash. No questions like, "Would you be paying cash or card?", you just get the receipt with the word "BAR" (German for "cash") printed on it, placed on the table in front of you. OK, requesting "cash only" payments is the prerogatory of the establishment and is within the rules, but in the age of digital payment, the restaurant should then have a sign stating "No card payment accepted" or similar prominently on display. Or at the very least, the personnel should warn the guests - BEFORE taking their order - that the restaurant only accepts cash (in order to avoid embarrassing situations, like for example, the customer maybe not having enough cash - which, considering the price per meal, is not impossible). It might be that there was an option to pay with a card, but it was not mentioned and the communication was not the best anyway so asking further questions seemed to be a wasted effort.
Complaining on the spot would help if one had the impression that the complaint would be understood by the staff. After paying the outrageous price for a fast-food grade meal, I honestly did not want to have anything more to do with the place. However, I considered it a duty to warn other people what they can expect at this establishment and that, if they are seeking value for their money, they should probably visit another establishment.
In short: the "value for money" of the restaurant is hideously low. Taking everything into account, the price charged should be between 10 and 15€ per meal, not 30€. I am sorry, but if you charge top prices, you should offer top restaurant experience - which this establishment manifestly does not.
Of course, no establishment is glad to receive a review like this, but it might also use it to try and improve the experience of...
Read moreI recently dined at Shiraz Restaurant in Zell Am See, and overall, it was a very good experience. The restaurant offers authentic Persian cuisine, and I was thoroughly enjoying the quality and taste of the food. Each dish was flavorful and beautifully presented, giving a true taste of Persian culinary traditions. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our visit. However, I did find the prices to be on the higher side. While the food is undoubtedly delicious, it does feel a bit overpriced compared to similar restaurants. Despite this, I would still recommend Shiraz Restaurant to anyone in Zell Am See looking to enjoy some very good...
