I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at a hotel that claimed to be a 4-star establishment, but turned out to be nothing more than 1-star nightmare. The discrepancies between the hotel’s claimed 4 star rating and its actual condition were both shocking and disappointing. Here are the distressing details of my stay:

Unsanitary Towels and Filthy Blankets: The towels provided were not only old and worn-out but also visibly stained and discolored with dirt. It was a repulsive sight. To make matters worse, the blanket in my room was also in a sorry state, lacking cleanliness and comfort.

Inflexible Reception Staff: Upon requesting two room access cards, as I had made a booking for two people, the reception staff surprisingly refused, citing an illogical reason that they couldn't provide access to two different cards. This lack of flexibility and customer service was highly inconvenient and frustrating.

False Claims of Free Parking: The hotel advertised free parking, and I even confirmed this with them before my arrival. However, upon reaching the hotel, I discovered that there was no parking garage available. They had a measly 8 parking slots on the street, which were frequently occupied. Once those spots were full, guests were left with no choice but to pay for parking elsewhere. This deception was deeply misleading and added unnecessary inconvenience.

Dirty and Neglected Facilities: The toilet facilities were shockingly dirty, and the shower enclosure was filled with dirt and rust stains. It was evident that proper maintenance and cleaning were sorely lacking. The overall lack of cleanliness was highly unhygienic and unacceptable.

Absence of Hotel Porters: A hotel claiming to be a 4-star establishment should have professional staff, including hotel porters. However, to my surprise, there were no porters available to assist with luggage. I was left to struggle with two large suitcases on my own, a task that should have been taken care of by the hotel staff.

Poor Sound insulation: The absence of noise isolation was a major concern. The walls and doors were so thin that every sound from neighboring rooms permeated through, making it nearly impossible to sleep in peace. The constant disturbance from the noise of other guests was beyond irritating.

Non-Functional Safebox: To compound my frustrations, the safebox in my room was not in working order. This created an additional nightmare, as I was unable to securely store my passports and other important items. Given the importance of safeguarding valuables, this failure in providing a functional safebox was not only inconvenient but also raised concerns about the hotel's commitment to guest safety and security.

In conclusion, this hotel was an absolute disaster. I strongly advise you to lower your expectations to that of a 1-star facility if you have any plans to stay here. The poor conditions, deceptive amenities, and lack of basic services make this establishment unworthy of its claimed star rating. Save yourself the disappointment and seek alternative accommodations that prioritize cleanliness, comfort, and genuine...

🌟 A Perfect Family Getaway at Modern Hotel Baku – Exceptional Service & Unbeatable Value! 🌟 My recent stay at Modern Hotel Baku was nothing short of outstanding! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, making it a truly memorable experience for my family – including our two-year-old.  The hospitality here is top-tier. The team was attentive, warm, and genuinely caring. Whether it was arranging extra pillows or offering timely assistance, they anticipated our needs with a smile.  The food was a highlight of our trip – some of the best we’ve ever had at a hotel! The breakfast spread was lavish, with fresh, flavourful options, and dinner menus offered a delightful mix of local and international dishes. Every meal felt like a gourmet experience!  Traveling with a toddler can be challenging, but Modern Hotel Baku made it effortless. They provided fresh milk for our little one at various times of the day without hesitation, and even offered snacks tailored for kids. The staff’s patience and willingness to accommodate our needs (like high chairs or kid-friendly utensils) made us feel completely at ease.   For the level of service, amenities, and quality we received, the price was unbelievably reasonable. It’s rare to find such affordability paired with luxury – this hotel nails it!  Modern Hotel Baku is a gem for families, couples, and solo travelers alike. Their attention to detail, dedication to guest satisfaction, and focus on creating a welcoming environment for children set them apart. We left feeling pampered, well-fed, and already planning our next visit!  It's hardly at distance from Nizami Street/Little Venice/Daniz Mall/Old Baku/Carpet Museum all at max 3-4Manat taxi fare.  – if you’re heading to Baku, look no further than this hotel. Five stars all...

We had three nights at this hotel which is not walking distance to the Caspian sea or the old town but in an area with old style apartment buildings, ie. more of a local atmosphere. There was a supermarket only a few minutes walk away for bottled water and supplies (we have our own travel kettle and make light meals in our room when not eating out) and the room had a minibar fridge. There are a couple of restaurants close by but one in particular did not seem to want to serve tourists. For transport the #88 bus (to the old town, the Bulvar and main train station - 28 May) is only one block away and costs only 2 manat per ride. You do need a Bakikart costing 2 manat (providing you have sufficient money on it, it can be used for more than one person) which can be purchased from a vending machine at the bus stop. However that was out of action when we were there but one of the receptionists lent us his until we could get one of our own from the stop near the old city - they are available at stations also. All the staff were magnificent - so helpful, one even walked us to the bus stop and helped us to cross the main road for the first time! We were in a standard triple room which we paced out at being 100 square metres - huge! The main drawback, which could easily be rectified, was that the single bed did not have a bedside table or light making it very difficult to read in bed. Despite that inconvenience we were very happy with...

I honestly don’t know how is this a 4 star hotel Cleanliness: -10/10 (yes negative) Bathroom was not clean when we arrived, bathroom had pee stains and pubic hair, we had to call them to clean it while we were in the room, tired and wanting to sleep! Sheets are stained, room full of all kind of bugs They came to clean next day on 1:00 pm almost Elevator smells like vomit absolutely disgusting Over all comfort: King size bed is basically 2 mattress aside, not very comfortable Mini fridge was missing, also had to call them, and they took forever. we had to call multiple times! We called also for missing tissues, all the staff are not wearing uniforms, girl came with a robe ??? Lighting is generally bad Hotel has this very creepy vibe, and both very safe, wouldn’t recommend it for an only girls trip Away from the center, half hour walk Breakfast: 0/10 was just awful, the absolute worst very limited options, juice isn’t fresh, tables are super dirty no staff to clean it after using, coffee is basically hot water and instant coffee awful awful awful My advice is if you’re planning to book it anyways ( and i 100% recommend you don’t) don’t book awful breakfast, go to the supermarket next door and buy everything there, they offer pastries View: is the only good thing about this hotel, literally City view on the fifth floor was decent

Hotel was terrible. Room was very dirty. Vomit on walls, foods scraps on chairs and hair in shower. Beds only had single sheet on old mattress ( no mattress protector for hygiene ) . I have shared photos so you may see for yourself actual condition and compare to advertised photos. We arrived at 10pm and rooms not ready even though booking was from 3pm. Asked to wait 30min. We ordered fries and pizza and it took 45min to arrive. Fries were stone cold when they arrived and inedible and they insisted we pay still. Hotel staff were not helpful at all. They just said yes we understand but offered no solutions and would not even accept a discount on cold fries that we could not eat. We informed in advance that we needed to leave at 7am and were told breakfast would be available so we booked this option. When we arrived their 24hr kitchen refused to have any breakfast ready earlier than 8am for our children. Still made us pay for breakfast even though they would not provide. Do not book this hotel. For developing countries best to stay in a franchised hotel that has international standards of hygiene.
