What a truly terrible experience! I was travelling the Silk route so was looking forward to staying in a real karavansari. What a mistake! Although we were given one of the 'luxury' rooms, it was basic, dirty and smelly. The bathroom was foul - the handle fell off the shower. The electrics looked dodgy.|A group seemed to be using the venue for team-building exercises - so groups smashing pots blindfolded and teams cheering each other on did not take into account that they were disturbing other guests. |Be warned - the restaurant is awful and the waiters are crooks! Possibly the worst breakfast I have ever eaten and yet one of the most expensive. There are no prices on the menu. There is also no milk for tea or coffee. You are encouraged to choose bread and then jam separately and charged an extortionate amount for both. Suddenly the 'friendly' waiter becomes less friendly when you tell him that he is overcharging you. Take my advice -go to the hotel over the road for breakfast - they take care of you, give good service and have proper coffee.|Avoid! ...
Read moreKarvansaray is a really special and beautiful place to be, every visitor of Şhəki should at least spend a view inside. But that's the positive points for it, as they act in every way to gain money out of the visitors. Maybe the good reviews made these guys become a bit over the level. BE CAREFUL especially in the restaurant when ordering your food! The 5Manat Kebab from the menu will turn with the question if you'd like instead of three pieces lamb three pieces of different meat into a 25Manat overpriced meal! Or the question towards some vegetarian food will end up in the offer of having rice with potatoes (French fries) and tomatoes billed with 20Manat! Sorry, a simple dinner for two persons with 67Manat total is not only overpriced, it is a odd scam! And these people know that they are scamming as they showed when we discussed about the prices and the way they were made by them.
Last words: NEVER EVER staying or eating at Karvansaray in Şhəki, maybe having a view inside, smile to the people before having great food with reasonable prices in any of the...
Read moreThis is a beautiful historic building which could make for a fantastic hotel, but it's the absolute pits. I've spent time in plenty of great, basic accommodation but this is not one of them. There is zero sense of hospitality, staff are rude and unfriendly, the rooms are absolutely filthy - clumps of dog and human hair on the carpets, stained furniture, broken windows, mattresses in really bad condition. The list goes on and on. Rooms are really noisy too (especially if you have one overlooking the garden which plays terrible music until late at full blast), service is slow to the point of being absolutely non-existent (and worst still, they don't care.) The management of this hotel is absolutely dire - so don't bother wasting money on staying here or in the cafe/restaurant - just walk in for a quick look (which you can do every day after 11am.) There are way better options for...
