Disappointing Stay: A Resort That Didn't Live Up to Expectations
This resort may not suit those under 60 or anyone looking to immerse themselves in Belizean culture. The experience is heavily Euro-centric with minimal Belizean influence, which makes it feel more like an American coastal town than a true Belizean getaway. The food is predominantly American with the exception of two sushi nights at the Martini Bar, which was underwhelming given that similar offerings can be found at average diners or local restaurants. Here’s a detailed breakdown:
RESORT PROPERTY: Pros: The resort is impeccably clean, the villas are well-maintained, and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. Cons: The background music is on a repetitive loop, featuring American songs with a Caribbean twist, giving the impression of a discount soundtrack rather than authentic Caribbean tunes.
STAFF: Pros: The staff are exceptional—friendly and attentive. Special thanks to Liz, George, Charlie, and Ricardo for their outstanding service. Their efforts are the primary reason for the rating not being lower. Cons: None.
BEACH: Pros: The beach is clean and well-maintained, with readily available, clean beach chairs and umbrellas. Cons: Sand fleas are a significant issue. Despite visiting other local beaches and resorts without encountering them, the sand fleas at this resort were relentless. The daily raking of the beach seemed to expose more fleas. Although the resort claimed to use insecticide, this was only evident before high-profile guests arrived, suggesting a lack of consistent treatment.
FOOD: Pros: The food, while limited in variety, is generally tasty, though there are a few exceptions. Cons: The menu is almost entirely American with only one subpar Belizean-style breakfast option. The resort falsely advertises having three restaurants; in reality, there is only one—INKYs—while the others are mere extensions of this kitchen. The steak was tough and overcooked, and side dishes were frequently missing. Additionally, the kitchen often ran out of basic items, which is frustrating.
VILLA (Sand Dollar): Pros: The villa is spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The bed is very comfortable, and there is ample storage. The bathroom is large with two showers. Cons: The bedroom sliding glass door lacked a screen, making it impossible to enjoy fresh air without letting in insects. This feature felt useless and diminished the experience of the villa.
Overall Assessment: The resort does not offer good value for the cost, especially when compared to other options that provide similar amenities for less money, fewer insects, and more authentic...
Read moreWe visited in 2024 and spent a week at sirenian Bay. For the most part, the staff is friendly, and the room was nice. This is a boutique resort, so please understand when booking, there is one pool and one restaurant. Even if you order food at the pool bar, it still comes from the one restaurant. Nothing wrong with this, but it’s good to be prepared for the very small and intimate atmosphere. The fresh water available in the room was a nice touch. Upon arriving, we ordered something from a menu posted online. We were quickly told that menu is not correct and we were provided a new menu. By the next day, that menu also was no longer valid and we were provided yet another menu. Each time the menus got smaller in selection **When booking a resort, we always choose those that are smoke and Pet free and this was no exception. Four out of the seven days we were there, we witnessed smoking, and or pets in the resort and staff was not eager to address this. The lodging and pool are on one side of the road. On the other- the restaurant and mini golf. Both nice- but be aware this area is open to the public. We enjoyed our stay for the most part. really had a bad taste upon leaving. I handed my cc to the front desk manager and said “please charge this card” for all incidentals. She took it, held it and charged the incorrect card. Embarrassing because this trip was for my husbands birthday week and I was attempting to pay the bill. Really didn’t like her failure to pay attention to detail. What they do well they do very well. Still need some fine tuning. One of the top crops of Belize is bananas. There were none available at this resort for breakfast, snack, or making certain cocktails. We rode into town and went to the grocery store and bought some for ourselves. If we can do it, they could too… they just didn’t. Room/ 4 star Resort property- 4 stars Atmosphere - 2 or 3.. smoking and pets Food - 3 stars Return trip- doubtful the resort replied to my review referring to sargassum. I never mentioned that. Also we did visit in 2024. January. They are stating all of our concerns were addressed and corrected. I’m certain they have. I am only sharing the experience we had...
Read moreThis boutique resort was well accommodated, aesthetically pleasing and had all the requisite amenities of the larger resorts but what separated Sirenian Bay was it's people. Marlon at the front desk was a wonderful host and an absolute plethora of information about the country, Mayan ruins, etc. Eficina was always very warm and helpful at the front desk. Ronnie, restaurant server and bartender was always friendly and always catered to our needs, as did Dixany and Marco. Natasha and Liam were always receptive and helpful in booking tours and answering question. Charlie, the bartender by the pool was a masterful mixologist and a strong business mind always with a friendly word and smile.Jason, the driver gave us great information on the history of the area surrounding the resort. Trina, a manager of sorts (and a wonderful business development professional) was determined to help and was always prepared with some friendly banter. Kenny the tour guide, gave us a wonderful customized tour of the Xunantunich Mayan Ruins as well as stopping by a local market to help us find fresh papaya. Vivet aka Ms. V, provided the best massage I've ever had (and I get massages often). Stacey was our dinner server several evenings and was always friendly and helpful and quick. Radford a young and upcoming Dancehall Artist (really talented young artist) who worked in a variety of positions always did so in a friendly helpful manner. Marcelo and George were wonderful concierges who provided exceptional service. Debbie (a late entry who only worked the last day we were there) was wonderfully warm and helpful. And lastly, Thomas from Captain Jacks took the time to show us around the property and provide us with insight for future trips and sold us on some other tours when we return. All were absolutely wonderful. They worked very long hours yet they always remained as warm, professional and friendly throughout our stay as they did the first time we met. I commend them for their service and rest assured we will be back to visit these folks at...
